I
I'm just doing what people have done this year with a much smaller sample. I thought those were the rules.
And you are still making the same mistake in not realizing that at least 1 of Upton/Heyward would not have been here after next year and Gattis couldn't play catcher anymore.
I'm not making the mistake of anything... The team needed to invest in one of them, period. If they did - you could make the case to trade the other.
In fact - I think our team could have been set up much differently if they had the EXACT same offseason, without making 2 of the trades. The trades they shouldn't have made were the Upton and Banuelos deals. If everything else happened exactly the same - I'd actually think we had a decent shot at wild card this year...
1. Maybin
2. Markakis
3. Upton
4. Freeman
5. CJ/KJ
6. Pierzinski/Bethancourt
7. Simmons
8. Callaspo
We'd have the same pitching staff, and the bullpen would have Carpenter and Shreve. We'd have the money to afford JUpton. We would have replenished the farm with Gattis and Kimbrel trades, along with the smaller ones. And we'd be in much better shape for the future.
And that's with the dumb signing of Markakis included
