2015 Trade Block - As It Evolves

<B>"What is a clvclv"</B>
It's early, but I've seen numerous GMs already quoted as saying they potentially expect more early activity than normal this season. Several of the names are obvious, but you have to imagine Hart may be actively shopping some guys already...

1.) Grilli - would be a perfect fit for Toronto (as well as other teams) since he's inexpensive. That contract should allow contenders to add him as a setup guy and insurance policy in case their current Closer goes down. His hot start and contract could fetch a better return than we might have initially hoped for. His experience and what he could do to mentor his eventual replacement are obvious reasons to hold onto him, but if the starters don't start getting deeper into games soon it might be best to move him while the iron is hot - and before Fredi absolutely wears Johnson and Martin out - because the Save Opportunities may get tougher to come by moving forward.

2.) Pierzynski - inexpensive with plenty of playoff experience and absolutely on fire. Anyone who's been watching closely has been able to notice how good he's been in the clubhouse, and any concerns about him "fitting in" following the Boston stories should be put to rest at this point. If Hart & Company are willing to move him while he's hot and pick up another veteran to help Bethancourt he could also fetch a pretty nice return. The Angels might be a good fit (although they don't have many obvious prospects we'd be that interested in IMO), but he could also help Miami (tutoring Realmuto), Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and several other contenders.

3.) Callaspo - the first team that popped into my mind yesterday was the Yankees since they could then slide Drew back over to SS. Of course he could fit in Kansas City since Infante always struggles to stay healthy (and allow them the chance to give Moustakas a blow in an effort to try to keep him hot and healthy). The Angels could desperately use 2B and 3B help, and Baltimore could have some interest as well.

Gomes and KJ are also obvious potential targets, albeit without as widespread interest just yet. If Johnson's couple of bad outings can be shown to be a blip (partially from overuse early in the season) and Roger can help Cahill build on the early part of his last start and consistently maintain his arm slot we stand to add another handful of nice pieces between now and the deadline.

Damn, are we rebuilding our rebuild already?

The mukaki rebuild is never complete. One team can not have enough mukaki.

Gomes is a guy I'd consider. KJ as well. Anyone we can trade and get a net positive return should be considered. Only exception to that list is Freddie.

I'd also sniff around and see if St. Louis wants Miller back. I'm sure they'd say no, but if they send back Reyes, Grichuk and Sierra I'd be all for it. Grichuk is severely flawed, but he represents something we're severely missing, right handed power. Maybe he'll learn a bit better plate discipline over time, I'm not holding my breath though.

Wuh?

Simba would like a word with you.

We have short stops in the minors. If someone offers a kings ransom for him, I trade him. He's a great player, but we have options there. Pretend in you will someone offers us a legit CF prospect, a legit OF power prospect, and a legit 3B prospect for Simmons all guys who're B+ rated and a few pitching prospects who're good, you wouldn't make that trade?

I would put Freeman in the same tier. If someone offer a ton for him like Simba, I would move him.

I don't think I'd want to move Miller at this point, but would look for something similar from Toronto for Grilli for sure - maybe something like Sean Reid-Foley and Dwight Smith, Jr. perhaps? Boston's another team that could be interested in Grilli to help shore up their pen. I wonder if he would be enough to get Bradley, Eduardo Rodriguez, Manuel Margot, or Brian Johnson straight-up.

Grilli should be in demand a little bit.

I know we have SS's in the minors, but Simba would hurt. If he is just now putting it together with the bat, then DAYUM. We know he has power as well that should start showing up.

I don't think anyone's interested in shopping him, but the point is he's not irreplaceable if someone wanted to knock Hart's socks off. Just for argument's sake, say Boston decides they value his defense enough to give up something like Bradley, Rodriguez, Rafael Devers or Margot, and Johnson for Simba and Grilli and then trade Bogaerts to re-stock their system. It would be awfully tough to turn that down.

Far-fetched for sure, but there are scenarios where I could imagine dealing Simmons. Not so much Freeman though - if there's ANYONE that's approaching "untouchable", I have to imagine it's Freddie.

People I'm confident we'll trade: Grilli and Asshole

People I think we'll try to trade: Jim, Cahill, Stults, Callaspo, CJ, Avilan, and Maybin

I also left Cleveland off my list of potential Grilli suitors. They could definitely use pen help and have a ton of OF depth. If Hart could convince them to give up Clint Frazier or Bradley Zimmer for Jason, he'd likely be gone in a hurry.

I think Grilli and J. Johnson will probably net the most interest. C. Johnson, K. Johnson, and Callapso could be guys who teams seeking veteran bench help may want. The white flag is already out for us, but Pierzynski has been playing really well and I would sort of hate to see him go. Guy knows how to hit.

I hope we trade a lot of these guys and pay out their salaries. That would increase the number of suitors and the return. We have money from all the guys we traded away. Use that money to offer Grilli free of charge to someone if it gets you a better prospect.

I went into the season thinking that I'd be more frustrated with him than anything, but I've liked him and the enthusiasm he's brought.

I think Simmons is more untouchable than Freeman, but no way you trade either.

If we end up in a spot with 0 proven young players on our roster and depend 100% on prospects, then we're stupid. Especially relatively cheap, controlled proven young players.

Simmons doesn't need to go anywhere for a decade. He's far too valuable. You'd spend the next decade trying to find a replacement.
