GDT 8/2/13: Braves (Medlen) @ Phillies (Martin) 7:10 PM

I still put Simmons ahead of BJ, just because Simmons has 99.9% better chance of clearing the pitcher, while BJ may just strike out. The thought of Uggla and BJ striking out back to back again worries me, but more importantly is to clear the pitcher to get another Heyward AB.

You pretty much said it for me.

Uggla and BJ back to back is easy for a pitcher to get out of a jam.

I could probably figure it out but has anyone checked Heyward's OBP since moving to leadoff? Got to be close to .500 doesn't it?

He's been hitting like Babe Ruth since they put him in the lead off spot. Still looks funny having a guy his size leadoff.

Well, the Nats have been hitting Harper lead off lately.

Gotta do what's best for the team.

Did some figuring. Either 16/34 or 18/34 depending on how you count reaching on a K. Either way, really good for a leadoff hitter. Kind of helps explain the offense of late.

Heyward moved to the leadoff spot on July 27. According to baseball reference, since then he's hit:

.357/.471/.607

Everyone has been league average or better since the ASB except Gattis.

Here is the teams WRC+ for the main starting 8 since then

Heyward - 164
Upton - 102
Freeman - 159
Mac 158
Gattis - 67
Johnson - 182
Uggla - 104
Simmons - 139

Not only just one person being a negative hitter but we have 4 hitters going at an all-star level or better. It's fun to watch.
