Around Baseball 2015 Edition

But aside from the high BABIP its not anything that's alarming, especially in a small sample size.

The fact that his stuff is the same is a good indicator that he should settle in to be his dominant self soon.

The homerun rate is alarming. That with the high BABIP means hitters are making better contact off him.

Nah, one of the two homers Kimbrel has given up this year came in Colorado. Kimbrel had the longest save streak in MLB before blowing his first save vs Arizona his last game. Plus Kemp falling down in RF made sure that tying run scored from first too. If that is Heyward out there the tying run wouldn't have scored and Kimbrel only gives up a run and still saves that game, save streak continues.

The homerun rate would be alarming over a full season, but not over 12 innings. That's an extra homerun or two and it severely inflates that number. It indicates harder contact, but it doesn't indicate whether that is predictive.

The truth is he's probably not as good as he was the last few years, but everything indicates that he will stabilize relatively soon.

Good thing we got our best pitcher for one year of Heyward.

Hopefully he doesn't join the TJ parade. I think this must be some kind of curse on the Braves pitching. We had the holy trinity for so long that now every good young pitcher flames out relatively quick for one reason or another.

Its amazing to me that people that are huge baseball fans refuse to take a cursory look at why players have certain stats. When people mentioned Teheran was a bit lucky last year, you refused to believe it. Teheran will be fine, but he hasn't shown peripherals to support a low 3 era.

Alex Wood is the best starter for us, imo. While, he's been lucky in not giving up homers, he's had terrible luck in BABIP and LOB%; they will stabilize and he will show hes the best starter on the roster.

Shelby Miller hasn't done anything this year that's an improvement on his career. He's striking out less guys. He has an absurd .206 BABIP, that will rise significantly.

Miller is PURPOSELY striking out less guys and getting guys to put the ball in play more on his 2 seamer.

You cannot ignore the fact integrating a new pitch successfully could shift his numbers. I am sure it won't continue at this rate, but what if his new norm isn't what its been previous? Is that not an option?

Julio is hurt or was hurt. No doubt about that whatsoever.

Let's hope he's not literally trying to get guys to put the ball in play......

MIller's worst pitch so far this year has been his 2 seamer. (outside of the change that he hardly throws). If he's falling in love with that pitch, he better do a better job with it.

It certainly could. But, he's still not going to last a season with a BABIP in the low .200s. If anything, if you are throwing a 2 seamer, you are going to have a higher BABIP (lower flyball rate) bc more grounders go for hits than do flyballs.

He can still be a decent pitcher if his ERA reaches his current FIP/xfip numbers. (which is likely to happen)

Agree.

Heyward is quickly approaching Markakis in terms of offensive production... shouldn't be much longer before he surpasses him

Heyward in May:

364 with a 857 OPS

I think he might end up being okay at baseball.

Nick Markakis in May:

211 with a 487 OPS

Not so sure about him, though........

lol .060 ISO. these are his "hot" streaks now.

A double is a big hit for him now. I just don't get it. Guy looked like the next coming early on. So dissapointing.

The good signs I see for Heyward is that his BB/K ratio is getting back to expected levels and he has done well against lefties this year. He will start to hit righties.

But again, Heyward was always going ot be a productive player. Its about how much were you willing to pay him and now the fact that we got a potential TOR type arm for him and another blue chip who is doing well based on his age.

Where did his power go though? It's very odd. He's still only 25 and has shown plenty in the past. But he just isn't really hitting for any.

Its bc everything he hits is on the ground right now. His swing is choppy and he needs to get back to the lift he had in his swing.
