Well, the only things that Zito has suggested that are good about New Jersey are:

1) Food
2) Culture/History
3) Beaches

I can guarantee you that my city roundly trumps New Jersey in all three respects and does it cheaper with much more attractive women.

There is nothing to Jersey that appeals to me except dirty ass Atlantic City bc of gambling. (though AC is struggling as Casinos keep popping up everywhere surrounding jersey. (Dover is nicer; another one popped up near Baltimore) I've been to AC about a dozen times and visited other random areas in Jersey like the shore. I have friends that live in Jersey City that are dying to find somewhere else to live. (looks like probably moving to Connecticut) Its a ****hole that smells that offers little outside of gambling. (which adds to the raunchy nature for sure) Hell, sports teams that are located in New Jersey call themselves "New York"

Charleston? Def. one of my favorite cities. Would consider moving there if I wanted to move.

perhaps ignorance is bliss in south carolina?
also, i mentioned schools. yours are terrible. ours are great, top to bottom. and your weather is garbage (like your education...maybe not that bad).
seriously, when your education is admittedly terrible, i'd hesitate to call any state ****ty.
and our accessibility to major cities is another super appealing trait.
we're also the richest state, so of course things are more expensive. there's a reason cost of living is cheaper in the south: not as many people want to live there. i wonder why.....

Having lived in California and Utah I have to say Nevada is one of my least favorite places on earth.

Nevada is clean except where all the nuclear waste has been deposited.

I'll take almost every western state over Nevada.
 
I don't mind Jersey, but admittedly I have spent most of my time there in Atlantic City and South Jersey and I hated both of those areas. The rest of the state seemed fine.

The people I could do without. It's telling that I much prefer Pennsylvanians over the stubborn jack asses that populate Jersey.

I mean, there is nuclear waste all across the country. And there's exponentially more of it in the Northeast than there is in Nevada. New Jersey has 37 dump sites compared to Nevada's 6.

South Nevada is pretty boring aside from Vegas, but the North and entire side of the state that borders California is spectacularly beautiful.

BTW, where in California? My love affair with the Pacific Northwest is kind of scary.

That is fair point. Lake Tahoe is incredible. I eat all the words I just said. I completely disconnect the two parts of the state in my mind. South Nevada (Prim, Vegas, Mesquite, etc.) is awful.
 
South Carolina is a bottom-10 state to live in when things like health, education, and safety, among other factors are considered.
So, yeah. Not sure many would prefer it over Jersey.

Charleston is probably one of the 2 or 3 best places to live. Its the tits and if someones joking on it, its cuz they don't know. Used to visit there quite a bit in college and after.

I lived in Palo Alto right next to Stanford. I just got a new job in San Jose so I will be moving back out there in July.

Portland is my favorite city in the county... Bar none. I will likely spend my whole life trying to find an excuse to move there.

My state's education is terrible, but mine is not. So I don't really care to be honest.

Zito already tried the 'access' to major cities line.

Commute times are not really a selling point to me. I ride my bike to work.

Boss goes to Tahoe for his golf trip every year. He has been just about everywhere worth playing golf and they go there every year. It is on the to do list.

Southern demographic data is always skewed because of the southern culture. Let's face it, blacks will never rise up out of the levels of poverty that have persisted since reconstruction. If you are not part of that part of the culture then you are probably not affected by those numbers.

There is another world famous golf course over there. I think it's called Wolf Creek. I am not personally a golfer, but everyone raves about the quality.

Well, we're talking about states, right? Not us as individuals? Your state's education is really poor. So that's a huge factor, at least to me, when considering where I'd rather live. You're not a dummy, but you live around a lot of them, apparently.

And I guess you're switching to anecdotes now, but living by major cities is very important to a lot of people, and NJ's density of population speaks to that.

Higher demand = more expensive. It's fine if you'd rather live in SC, but a majority of people (and the market) disagree.

Are you in tech?

I have some family that lived in Menlo Park so I fell in love with the entire neck of the Bay from San Mateo all the way to San Jose. I was out in Palo Alto in February and it is growing at an incredible pace.

Portland is awesome. Period. There are really no words. I'm tearing up a little just thinking about moving there.
