5/17/15 Braves @ Marlins

Kris Medlen has only had 2 complete games in his entire career with 1 shutout... Alex Wood has only had one complete game in his career and zero shutouts... Teheran probably comes the closest with 4 complete games and 2 shutouts last year... but I know they were not in as close proximity. Man what an "idiotic" statement I made.

If i were Callaspo and EYJ, I might not be ordering new bats.

Cunningham and Peraza are making them both look pretty expendale.

Saying that the Braves won the Jason Heyward trade because Shelby Miller almost threw a no-hitter is just straight blather, sorry.

It also seems to detract from the fact that Miller almost just threw a no-hitter. And has been pretty freaking incredible this season.

Shelby Miller 1st pitcher in Braves history to open a season with eight starts of 2 earned runs or less.

Shelby Miller threw 1st-pitch K to 24 of 30 hitters and had only two 3-ball counts. He was clocked at 93 mph or better 64 times, 95+ on 30.

Are you saying those tweets detract from almost throwing a no-hitter?

The Braves didn't win the trade because Miller almost threw a no-hitter. They won it because we got 4 years of a guy who clearly has a ton of talent and is putting it all together for one year of a guy with similar relative talent who has been taking it all apart rather than putting it together. We're appreciating Shelby as a whole. And it's fun to look back and say "wow, look at what we got."

Part of enjoying Miller is thanking the Cardinals for trading him and recognizing how awesome our front office is.

I'm not suggesting you stop being excited about Shelby Miller, I'm suggesting that you stop saying idiotic things/being overly defensive.

Well we were told all offseason that Hart is an idiot and the new FO has no idea what the hell they're doing.

We'd have the worst offense all-time.

Heyward trade was beyond dumb.

Lot of the trades we made sucked.

Sorry that some of us cant be a little happy that Miller is pitching like a boss right now. And some of the other moves made look good as well.

No, haha. Although I see where you might have construed my comment that way.

That really wasn't what was happening when I made my original post. The 'look, I told you so' posts and predictable quips about Heyward, in general, were obscuring good discussion about what Miller had actually just accomplished.

I still say that it's dangerously foolhardy to definitively judge a trade in its infancy like many have done so far this season -- not just RE: Miller. That's not to say that Shelby isn't capable of being completely, totally, and forever awesome -- but, cool your jets.

It could just be residual superstition from today's game, but your bold claim that the Braves 'won' the trade is mortally wounded if Shelby Miller gets hurts at any point during this season.

*jumps over chalk*

Oh ok, I was really confused by that initially.
I disagree though. I think the Braves have clearly already won the trade, and of course anything is barring injury because you just can't really ever see that coming. We'd still have Shelby for four years, and we likely would have lost Heyward this off-season, anyway. Miller's value is much, much higher than Heyward's right now, and it isn't even really close. And just the fact that he's cheaper and under control means a ton.

Thank you for illustrating the **** out of my point.

I mean, maybe -- I don't buy into the value of 'years' like you do though. I say that if the Cardinals go on to win the World Series or even make the playoffs (supposing Heyward continues to contribute menially, which I'm not willing to concede yet) the additional money, exposure, and desirability brought to the franchise is equitable to the financial value of four years of Shelby Miller on some level.

Is that likely? Probably not. But I see why teams like St. Louis make those kind of 'put us over the top' moves and it's not really this one-sided acquisition to me when I look at it that way.

How was anything I said "look I told you so" when I simply said I don't remember a Braves starter going as consistently long into games? When I never even mentioned the trade? Someone is a little prickly and reading into things and assuming. You're the one detracting from his performance, not us. In fact, I have no idea why you're even mad... you're just assuming people are saying things that they clearly aren't. You just took something I said good about Shelby and basically said it was idiotic... wasn't even an over the top comment and had nothing to do with the trade. You're the one with your hair on end being ridiculously defensive.
