Around Baseball 2015 Edition

He was special in April of 2013 but he wasn't the best hitter in baseball during that month. But what you are pretty much saying is that Harper has only been healthy for 7 weeks in his MLB career, right?

Clearly I make some statements that are over the top. Harper is only healthy on the days he hits a home run.

The way I see it I can't win in this argument. If Harper continues to dominate everyone will say that I was still wrong at the time and if he struggles then everyone will say I was wrong.

I'm ok with that. I'm confident in my statement.

Harper prior to his 3 homerun game on May 5th had 130 wRC+ over 122 PA

Since he has had 376 wRC+ over 50 PA.

I don't think it's much to ask people to wait until Harper is a bit more consistent before he is labeled Barry Bonds (which has been done in this thread).

Most of your statements in this thread are over the top. It's why nobody takes you seriously when you say things like Harper is the best hitter in baseball when healthy. Or he's the best hitter in baseball based on having the best stats after an insane couple of weeks. Because he wasn't the best when you started this nonsense and he won't be by seasons end.

If you are referencing my comment I said that I haven't seen a hitter dominate like this since Bonds which is not the same thing as saying he is Bonds.

You will always be wrong that he is already the best hitter in baseball. They don't give MVP's to players for merely projecting to be the best player in baseball. You kinda have to do it first.

Fine, then I expect an apology from you when he is.

It's because your argument is dumb. Harper very well could realize his full potential and be the best hitter of his generation. Saying he is that right now after an insane hot stretch is stupid. And you are being called out on it.

If Harper ends the season as the best hitter then my statement is right. Just becuase the baseball community wants to wait to see it doesn't make it not true now.

So if he does have one of the most dominant offensive seasons of all time when exactly does he become the best? Is it a day after the season ends? Is it August 24th at 3PM? How do you know for sure?

My point is that your ability is always your ability and Harper is flashing that ability in a way we haven't seen in a while.

Have you not seen Cabrera hit?

So far this year Harper has exceeded anything that Cabrera has done...yes I know small sample size and recent hot stretch.

In every great hitters numbers that are insane hot stretches. Harper should not be penalized for that.

Just keeping you honest and not allowing posters to make up things that I've said.

Fair enough.

I would like to ask you something though. You have said many times that having minor variances in performance is important (see the Braves 2014 vs 2015 offense debate). Why does a 2 week period factor in so heavily to your argument in regards to Harper? Or a 7 week stretch if you want to count April of 2013 with May of 2015?

Because Harper is still a great hitter and has shown that in the past outside of this hot stretch.

For effs sake, the guy was a monster at 19 years of age. I get that people feel my overbearing statements are distasteful but to not think its more than likely that Harper will become at least one of the top 5 hitters in baseball is insane to me. Harper to me is like Lebron. Been hyped up forever and has more than lived up to the hype.

First off if he ends his season with the stats he has now then yes I and almost every other person will say he has to repeat it. Because he would ahve to prove he could double his BB% and have a BABIP near 400. Or do you really think he will be able to keep that up all year? And year after year?

Why should we be shocked that he is walking more? Pitchers should be afraid to pitch to him and the Nationals offense is not great outside of him.

Really? In 2013 Cabrera put up back to back months with a WRC+ of 230 and 223. Ended the first half that year with a WRC+ of 206. So yeah he has done this before.
