Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Saw that Todd Redmond was DFA'd by the Jays . . . I wasn't even aware that he was in the bigs, but let's pour out a Mich Ultra for Tood (anyone remember that?), a good perpetually-AAA soldier for us back in the day.

I remember thinking he would be a decent number 5 for us incase of injury. Had decent peripherals report on him was a good grounder, should have been decent. He was actually OK for Toronto in that role in 2014. This year though, he was a trainwreck.

Beane has taken a ridiculous amount of risks in Oakland and it's paid off more often than not. Without him they are perennial cellar dwellers.

Heyward has a 968 OPS and a 368 avg vs LHP this year....so if they are platooning him, that's pretty dumb.

In 38 AB's, which is a super small sample size. His stats vs righties this year is .196 average with a .550 OPS. Maybe they should bench him against righties and use him vs lefties?

SSS or not, he's killing LHP this year....obviously that will regress but platooning makes little sense at this point.

Well Girichuk had a great game yesterday and the Cardinals supposedly love him. They raen't going to sit Bourjous or Holiday either.

You have to wonder if the Cards may try and trade Heyward at the deadline.

Heyward gets traded back to the Braves for Jenkins and gets extented :JSIDK:

They aren't going to sit Bourjos? Why not? He's not good....he's a 4th OF / defensive replacement.

You don't want Heyward out in CF everyday. He can obviously play the position but you are just asking for him to get hurt there. Even after Bourjos they have John Jay who isn't the best hitter but is a solid fielder. Its going to be an interesting summer for Heyward for sure.

We were literally the only two people on the board that advocated for a Rasmus signing.

He's done well so far. Still strikes out in ridiculous amounts but can't deny that he has been effective this year.

I still like Markakis in RF.

Still baffles me that a rebuilding team would sign Markakis for 4/44 and not sign Rasmus for 1/8 or 2/14 or something like that. Whatever, I'm not in the front office, I just have to guess what this team's thinking.

To date, he's basically done what he did last year, Though with more power which I expect to normalize. Markakis has continued his trends, both are basically performing where expected. You'd think a bit of a slump in power for Rasmus and a bit of a rise for Markakis but also a bit of a slump in BABIP for Markakis as well.

As I said in the offseason, they're roughly equivalent players, but Rasmus was to be had for much cheaper.

Based on where the teams were I can definitely see how Rasmus would have made more sense.

I still like the Markakis signing and think he will be an effective player until the end of the deal.
