I've Heard Enough About This

The media does it because they know Americans will eat it up.

All I've seen on my facebook the last few days are people talking **** about Jenner and all of these right wing memes of soldiers, police, firefighters with the tagline "These are the real brave and courageous heroes".

People fixate themselves on stuff like this and then complain that the country is going to ****. I can guarantee you nearly all of the people complaining about this award don't even know who Arthur Ashe was/did nor know the last 3-5 recipients of the award.

It's funny - when the LGBT mob yells and bitches about every differentiating non-conforming opinion, it's just the "free market" and the others are intolerant.

it's almost like they have been persecuted for decades (and longer) and is why it is viewed to heroic etc to do this while knowing the backlash from people/the public/the free market

i also don't get why people think there is a limit on being brave/courageous/heroic

Modeling for magazines and getting in front of every camera that'll look at you doesn't seem much like bravery to me - more so opportunism

yeah, did this for opportunism, fame and money

we would never know who Bruce Jenner was or the Jenner family was in this society if this didn't happen

good call

Celebrities never want to become irrelevant. I doubt that he had a sex change because of this but saw it as an opportunity to become relevant for longer.

Yeah - posing for Vanity with a "Call Me Kaitlyn" just screams someone who simply wanted to be true to himself.

I couldn't care less about the sex change. That's why I too am tired of hearing about it. He and Michael Sam can run away together

Agreed. Nothing wrong with what happened. I just don't get why the media needs to sensationalize everything with celebrities. I just wish the American Public wasn't so addicted to this crap.

When **** like this stops selling, it will. Look at reality television. TV was basically all reality television until the users demanded better content. Backing diehardly behind shows like Breaking Bad. Making it obvious they want quality content. Sure there's still way too much reality TV (what on TLC isn't reality, remember when that channel was about learning?) but there's also been a renaissance in scripted TV. Comedies have had a rebirth, dramas, so on so forth. Lots of quality new content

And society is better off for it. I never understood reality TV. If I want something that is real I will just go live my own damn life.

What's there to not understand? It was a clever conceit by networks and production-companies to skirt guild regulations by hiring non-union writers and actors on the ultra cheap, then passing the product off to consumers as an "unscripted" novelty-circus. People only bought it as long as the contrivance seemed novel, which forced producers into ever-steepening and thinly-stretched gambits. It was a cash-cow whose udders are now nearly sucked dry, but I think the networks and production houses always knew it was a short-term grift, which is why they were so prolific and profligate in throwing anything against the wall—especially with low overhead making the risks so low.

I guess I should have specified that I never understood why people liked reality TV

Novelty and spectacle. At the mass-culture level, that's pretty much always trumped more rarefied concepts like "substance" where entertainment is concerned.

Right wing hates the Jenner coverage and believe it's a mental disorder, but don't wan't to do much to help treat mental health problems nationally.

He lost his cash cow when he got divorced. Also, some people just get addicted to the attention. I don't think it's completely about fame and money, but I think you're naive if you don't think those aren't major motivating factors.

His daughters are his cash cow. Your knowledge of this scenario is terrible.

His daughters are over 18, except for Kylie who will be 18 soon. While unlikely that he would ever hurt for money, it is incredibly clear that Kris was the breadwinner in the relationship. He wasn't going to be in the show(s) much, if at all anymore after the divorce.

Or he'd have his own show. Bruce's Roost or some bull**** like that. I don't think this makes sense as a pure publicity stunt.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that horrid Queenbee Kardashian beeotch could probably make just about any guy want to change genders if you're married to and stuck with her for as long as Bruce (or whatever the hell he wants to call himself these days) has been. I actually think most guys on death row would prefer the lethal injection to a lifetime with her.

I never said it was solely a publicity stunt. You don't get sex change as a publicity stunt (at least I would hope not). Doing an interview claiming you're a woman, posing on the cover vanity fair, etc, those scream publicity stunts. If you watched any of the shows (which I have painfully been forced to watch) it is rather clear everyone in that family craves attention. More than a couple shows are about them talking about rumors from TMZ about them.
