2015 June Draft Results Thread

uhhh... the entire offseason all I heard was were going to use our resources on the Cuban market and that was how we were going to fill the holes. First we thought we were going to trade upton/heyward for bats... then it was the cuban market. then it was the draft. now it's going to be the international market...

Really? You heard all that from Hart/Coppy/JS/Bobby? Or did you hear that from other fans posting what they'd like to see happen on a message board???

If you heard all that from the guys in charge, how about PMing me their cell phone numbers - I'll tell them what I would do.

The Braves got 6 bats in trades this offseason. Two of which have been key contributors to the major league team this year.

How are you in any position to criticize the front office about the draft?

What are your credentials? Who have you scouted?

Again - using this logic no FO can ever be question, and they never make a mistake, because they know more than us

In baseball when it comes to the amaeteur draft absolutely not. There is no sense. You are literally telling someone they are doing something wrong while having ABSOLUTELY ZERO first hand knowledge. How does that make sense at all?

I heard from fanboys like yourself who spin everything the organization does into a positive. "Would make sense that this was their plan all along" is a classic quote

I don't agree with using the majority of the first 10 rounds on relief pitchers...

but that's just me

If even one of those players turns into a major league relief pitcher its a success. 99% of these kids won't sniff the major leagues.

Apparently some of "us" know more than others of "us".

How you can admit you didn't know anything about two guys projected as 1st rounders like Everett and Hooper on one hand and then criticize people in the front office who have access to WAY more information about (and have SEEN) these players on the other and not feel hypocritical is tough to understand.

Fine - then take 10 shortstops and "if even one of them turns into a major league shortstop it's a success"

It just so happens that shortstops are more valuable

I would love it if we took some short stops but it seems the run on them was quick so I suspect that the remaining ones weren't all that special.

Would I love to have a Bryce Harper in the system? Obviously. But I'm not about trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. The Braves have clearly identified pitching as the strength of the draft at the spots they are picking. They know their pitching and hopefully some of these kids will turn into legit major leaguers.

I assure you that if we have a glut of pitching then it will be traded. There are teams already looking for pitching and if you catch a team at the right time looking to make a run you can clean up on their farm system. Maybe one year we will have a Jeff S to trade.

I would rather develop our own hitters than hope to catch another team at the wrong time ina trade. It's what the 90's Braves did.

Link to me where these guys were projected first rounders... I'd love to see it.

I don't know how many times I have to say this in this thread - but it will probably make for a good drinking game. I'm don't care about the individual players (I don't know them)... I care about the philosophy

then take CFs.

They're lottery tickets, right? Might as well go big, then go for relief pitchers. But the front office knows all and how dare I question them. Blaspheme

What are you talking about? Acquiring great hitters is easy! Just look at JD Drew and Mark Teixera... caught those suckers at the wrong time

I'm a "fanboy" of anyone who has more knowledge about any subject than I do - whether they're Braves' employees, scientists, historians, plumbers, or dog catchers. I try to learn new things from new people every day. Pounding my chest and proclaiming I know more about what they do makes me look like an idiot.

See - I even learned something from reading your posts.

Jeez... You guys are both right. Shortstops, catchers, relief pitchers, etc. If any of them work out at all then it's all positive.

Hell, if one of our draft picks from day two ends up as our manager I consider it a rousing success.

I'm disappointed that we have drafted a million college relievers, but that's a slight disappointment. In hindsight I would have been really disappointed with the Kimbrel pick, but that worked out okay.

Let's just all wait a couple of years to criticize this draft (and be extremely happy we got Kolby Allard whom Kiley, Klaw, and Cooper have specifically picked out as one of their favorite first round picks).

In the meantime, we have a manager that deserves our undivided attention.

I'm with you. The philosophy does not seem clear to me as of yet, so that's where my concern is coming from. It may become more clear as we see the rest of the picks, and it will almost certainly become more clear once we get some post-mortem interviews from Bridges and Clark. I'm certainly going to keep an open mind as this unfolds, but right now I'm a little confused.
