2015 June Draft Results Thread

Okay. Let's assume you can keep the money and use it for whatever purpose you would like.

It still doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things.

A young reclamation project like Cahil is exactly the type of player a rebuilding team like the Braves should acquire.

It didn't work out. It doesn't impact the Braves long term goals in the slightest.

If someone actually didn't praise the Kimbrel deal then they deserve to be put in a mental asylum. Congratulations that you were able to get on board with the second best move by any team in the offseason.

Gattis was another deal in this vein.

So you basically said you didn't like any of the other deals and they all have essentially come up roses for the Braves thus far.

Well considering I was screaming all offseason that they trade Kimbrel & BJ together, it was easy for me to get on board. Was much more than I expected to get for them. Plus I've always been a Maybin fan

Also - I also meant to say I praised the Uribe deal.

The Heyward trade has worked out certainly in our favor. But I'm not one of the people who carelessly say "he was 100% gone so we had to do it." The Upton deal has come up roses? Not so fast. If we still had Upton we may very well be in first place. Jace has been OK - but nothing to go gaga over. Mallex & Peterson have been great... but that is certainly not a guarantee to mean anything. Upton has been an MVP candidate.

Those trades are still going to hurt because we will desperately need an impact middle order player at some point, and we had 1 (another with the potential) in our backyard that we shipped off.

And again (broken record here)... My main issues with the front office has been the strategy - not the individual deals - of punting the season away, which I did not think was necessary. I've never heard of a team with as much young talent as we had do something like this.

Plus the Markakis signing

Jace has provided comparable value to the Braves this year that Upton has to the Padres. Not as much obviously but we also got a potential #2 starting pitcher and our starting CF next year with potentially an impact LF down the road. That is nailing a trade.

2 HUGE pieces of that young talent were a year away from leaving with the Braves holding nothing but lottery tickets. That would have been the worst move possible.

Mallex is our starting CF next year?

OK then...

I thought the Cahill trade was about getting the pick and the slot money. So far I am disappointed in that we only have one pick who you could argue is worth going over slot, or even slot.

I really hope there is a high upside HS hitter or two that we can pick late and try to blow them out of the water with a big offer with our slot pool money. If not I'll be disapointed for a week.

After that week it will all come down to how guys turn out. Tons of MLB stars are very late picks. I hated the minor pick until he started being good. So who knows?

FWIW, a quick gander at Justin Ellison's stats tells me he has some potential. Played at a tiny school, but absolutely raked with a .429 average and 21 HR in a little over 200 ABs.

I approve!

Brah.

Hey! I'm 2/2. I highlighted these guys in a post last night in response to someone asking about what to expect today.

Ellison is interesting. Played at the same JC in Oklahoma that produced Andrelton Simmons. Big-time tools. Committed to Oklahoma State.

Edit: 3/3 with Johnson-Mullins in the 13th.
