6/11/15: GDT - San Diego Padres @ Atlanta Braves

What I've concluded about this season so far is that by far the biggest miscalculation by the front office was how good the rest of the division would be. No way in their wildest dreams did they expect to be within three games of first place in June.

57's defense of Fredi is baffling...

I will say this. The one area where you have to give Fredi credit is that he was a clear supporter of Seitzer. And by all accounts Seitzer has done a great job thus far. The only hesitation I would have with firing Fredi is that we might lose both McDowell and Seitzer. Both are pretty good at what they do, imo.

I must've missed this

Not sure it was a miscalculation though. I think they would have made the same decision regardless. They wanted a rebuild.

I enjoy watching them as well. From an offensive stand point we've got 6 or 7 guys in the lineup that will put together good AB's (Peterson, Maybin, Freeman, Markakis, Uribe, KJ/Gomes and AJ). I enjoy watching that. Last year I think we only had 3 guys in the lineup that would actually have good AB's (Heyward, Freeman and Upton), 4 when Fredi was willing to play LaStella. You put the lineup out there we have right now and it's pretty damn solid. It's not a bad team we're putting out there. Really the only thing about this team that is bad is the pen. Unfortunately it's historically bad.

Also while McDowell's had some success from a production standpoint... the injuries have been absurd and I have to think it's got to be related to the throwing program

You can't just ignore your first sentence though. It's pretty important. I think it's a stretch to blame the injuries on McDowell. I just don't see the connection. You need to establish a link there.

Well... Mazonne had a radical throwing program and few pitchers got hurt. Mcdowell pulled it back quite a bit and the injuries have piled up like I've never seen.

Both pitching coaches had good results. One had healthy pitchers.

I'll also admit that some of the shine has worn off a bit on Roger with the performance of the pen this year... fairly or not

Why would we lose them unless the new manager hates them etc?

Don't see how firing Fredi means they are automatically gone

I must've have missed where Fredi shad a significant role in seitzer and Mcdowell

He didn't hire McDowell, but at least he held him on. McDowell was a Bobby hire and clearly there is a strong relationship with Fredi and Bobby. So it's not hard to imagine Fredi approving of the hire. I thought Fredi had a previous relationship with Seitzer and remember reading that was one of the factors in getting him over here.

I can't find much evidence of anyone like Fredi - except maybe Bobby and 57. Like I said, Fredi must be a democrat

It seems you're thinking of our new third base coach Bo Porter, who was also with Fredi in Miami.

PS: I think Fredi only got to know Seitzer after we hired him, that is what it sounded like when we hired Seitzer based on Fredi's comments.

I love Mazzone and think he should be in the HOF, but there's only one Mazzone. I just don't think it's realistic to bring him back.

Fredi and Bo have a relationship though. I wouldn't grump at all if Bo Porter was our manager. I like Bo Porter. But I also liked Fredi. I thought he was really good with Florida as an outside observer. Not sure who I'd name as our next manager, but I would like to keep McDowell and Seitzer.

I have no idea. It's not my job to know. Do you not think the rate our pitchers have gotten hurt - specifically with TJ - is alarming? Do you assume it's a coincidence?

I have no issue keeping mcDowell - but like I said, the shine has worn off a bit. Although it's probably bc I'm just mad we traded Heyward
