Brian Jordan's New BFF
You're so annoying, and i know i cant be talking, all you do is bash the FO.
C’mon. He’s playing.

The Braves are currently in a position where they can potentially "solve" the two remaining needs (LF and C) with the best available options in this winter's free-agent class without giving up ANY prospects at all.
Maybin loves being a Brave. He's legit. He's confident and I hope and pray he stays away from injury. Talking to some SD fans, they're pissed and happy for that he's performing this well. They said he always laid out for balls and hurt himself diving. I'm perfectly fine with that plan JohnNot with you there, mate. Maybin in RF, M Smith in Center, and Markakis in LF is a fine outfield, and outfield offense hasn’t been an issue for us. C, pen, and possibly an ace I guess are really our only holes.
Agreed. That said, I don't think any team wouldn't like to have a recent Top 100 prospect who's 2 years younger than the average players in Hi-A striking out 8.1 batters/9 IP. Sims needs "tweaks" and work, but he's still just 21 - he's got time. He would arguably be one of their top 3 pitching prospects including the players they drafted this month.
One of the easy mistakes to make when targeting someone in a trade these days is offering to overpay with your first offer when you want a player IMO. The Cardinals did so for Heyward - Miller alone likely would've gotten it done. The Padres did for Justin - Fried, Mallex, and Jace likely would've gotten that done. And on and on. You really need to examine their system, find their holes, and offer to plug as many of them as possible.
I personally believe that you can't afford to "overpay" for a player like Lucroy just because he's cheap when you're rebuilding, even at a position of need. The Braves are currently in a position where they can potentially "solve" the two remaining needs (LF and C) with the best available options in this winter's free-agent class without giving up ANY prospects at all. The finances are available for them to get into a bidding war for J-Up and Wieters with anybody if they so choose. However, Peraza and Sims are becoming "excess" depth that could be utilized to land a LF or C that would allow you to maintain greater financial flexibility by only paying absolute top-dollar for one of those players this winter.
While Catcher declines surprisingly mirror other players' production drops (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/catcher-aging-is-a-curve-not-a-cliff/), those dropoffs begin to become significant at age 30 - which both Lucroy and Wieters will be next season. Assuming the Brewers wouldn't take the proposal I mentioned and wanted a better pitching prospect, I'd say "thanks, but no thanks" - that pair will likely net you a Catcher or LF (or other important piece) eventually. If not, it won't hurt to make Peraza a super-utility guy and keep working with Sims to see what he can ultimately become.
Not with you there, mate. Maybin in RF, M Smith in Center, and Markakis in LF is a fine outfield, and outfield offense hasn’t been an issue for us. C, pen, and possibly an ace I guess are really our only holes.
I'm willing to give Mallex a chance to prove himself, but I'm not totally sold about his status as our future CFer. Maybin is more than an adequate CFer. I see no reason to move him at this time. I understand the thinking that it may keep him healthy, but his offense at one of the corner positions would not be all that valuable. Imo, you keep him at CF and ride out his contract as is. Still have 2 more years of control past this year. If someone wants to overpay for him, only then do you consider moving him.
Just to stir the pot a little...
Wouldn't Maybin's offense in RF with his defensive capabilities be FAR better than paying Heyward???
Just sayin'.
Heyward has the same WAR as Maybin this year despite his slow start. Maybin is probably close to the top end of whats expecting of him and isnt that good of a defensive player. Depends on cost for sure but Heyward has upside in his favor and we'll have to see how the remaining 100 games go.
Then you wouldn't bat an eye if the Gnats threw $20+ million at Jason this winter???
Umm...OK.
I wouldn't be surprised if Maybin stays in CF when Mallex is called up. Mallex may not throw as well as Maybin.
To me, the Jason ship has sailed. Not that he's not better than he has displayed to this point, but I certainly get more out of watching Maybin top end or not than Jason and what he's displaying now. There is no way that I give him $20 million to do what he's doing now or on the assumption that he'll do it in the future. He may. I hold hope and love him to death. But for what this team has in the future, it's not a necessity.Heyward has the same WAR as Maybin this year despite his slow start. I haven't really ever advocated trading for Lucroy. I lean more on the opinion that he will cost more than he will actually be worth. I would rather engage talks with the Yankees about trading us Mac and them taking on 1/3 of his remaining contract inexchange for some of our excess pitching.
Not sure what it has to do with Nats but they dont have anywhere to put him.
They're your "other favorite team". If you believe that much in his bat, wouldn't it make sense to play him in CF, leave Harper in RF, and play Werth exclusively in LF to shield him from injury as much as possible when he returns? Washington could pay Heyward that by letting Zimmerman and Span walk and replacing Zimmerman with Giolito after all.
Throwing $20+ million a year at Jason Heyward based on what he's SHOWN to this point is blatantly stupid - kinda like trading Touki Toussaint and Bronson Arroyo for Phil Gosselin-level stupid.
For any team.
Washington COULD pay him but they have a ton of players to pay in the next few years, and eventually a blockbuster deal for Harper if he isnt set on playing for NYY.
They probably go with Werth, Taylor, Harper left to center to right next year.
You're missing the entire point...

I dont think throwing 20+ a year at Heyward is stupid if he hits well in the 2nd half.....
Then there's not much that can be said other than I'm glad you don't work for the Braves.
