Jace Peterson

Yeah, I think the needle is starting to move more toward possible starting second baseman as opposed to possible utility man.

I think that's an under sell. He's a top 10 guy right now in MLB. SSS and the like.

I do think there is room for improvement in SLG and base running. But he appears to have the tools to do that. Maybe a dip in OBP or avg but hopefully made up for in slugging. He's not played a ton of 2B and this is his first year...so I think we'll see him improve.

I don't get to watch all or most of the games. I know he's had some fluke doubles. But most of the time he seems to hit the ball pretty hard. I guess I'm driving at that I don't think his hits remind me of the magical CJ year.

Not to mention leadoff has seemed to be the curse of braves players since Furcal. Bourn did well there for a couple of seasons IIRC. Peterson seems to be thriving there.

Your needle moves very slowly. I think we are past the "utility man only" stage myself (We could all be wrong, but I don't think so).

He drastically needs to improve his base running ability. Other than that I like what we've seen from him.

His defense and on base ability alone make him a starting caliber player. Just how good of a player he is/can be is up for debate, but I think it's rather obvious he is capable starter.

I think it was in that same Gammons fluff-piece that came out today about Hart that I read the comment that the Simmons/Peterson combo is 'considered' the best DP turning combo in baseball along with Crawford/Panik. High praise.

top 10 player ever.

i'm only ready to go top 15 ever, personally, but argument for 10 could be made IMO.

To be fair, his base running is excellent. It's his reads on pitchers when he is stealing bases that's been bad. Even with his poor stolen base percentage he has positive base running numbers.

Yes, that was it. I read it today too.

His base stealing ability needs work. His base running is good overall, but his base stealing is a struggle. The thing about Jace is that he's a naturally good baseball player, but he came up playing football. So there's still some work to be done in regards to his baseball acumen. Thus the grumps from sturg and niners about his uncomfy fielding and base stealing. But these are two areas that he can improve and because of his work ethic will likely improve upon.

I've obviously been a big supporter of Jace from the beginning. The thing about him that stands out the most to me is that he has a natural ability at the second base position. He's very athletic and tough. Defensively you know what you are getting. A solid well above average defensive 2b. Offensively you are getting a guy with a nice walk rate and a workable K rate. Put these two things together and you get a player with legit value at a nice price. I'm not necessarily expecting Jace to continue his offensive production from a hitting stand point, but I do think his base stealing ability will improve. And I also think he his defense will improve. Keep in mind that this guy is essentially a rookie. All of his weaknesses are improvable outside of power.

That fluff piece was littered with inaccuracies (ie Jace homered to win the game for Wisler among many others). Pedro is getting weak in his old age.

So when he compared Mallex smith ro Lofton, I hope he didnt mean eury Perez

Haha, me too. Plus Smith is a LHH and Perez a RHH. :)

This is the second time I've heard the Lofton comparison in regards to Smith, so I guess that's good news. I think that's a bit unfair to Smith though. I am not expecting him to be like Lofton. I'm hoping he will be Michael Bourne.
