I omitted "second" from my post. Obviously Curry is much better.

They could be one of the better teams without Dray, but they wouldn't have won the title without him this year. If you look at the value of a win at that end of the wins curve and it's a no brainer to give him a max.

They could sign a player at a lesser deal (probably not as good of a player as Dray). They still have a ton of talent and are going to need money for Klay/Curry in the future. Do you sign a guy at the max that needs Curry to be able to provide the value to the team he does? It's not like he has an refined offensive game.

Not a chance. Green allows them to actually play small and capitalize on their strength. Without Green they would either have to stay big or get absued on the defensive side of the ball.

That's right, in thethe's world the only thing that matters is playing small.

They just locked up Klay last offseason, and Curry in a few years.

You and BRule dont understand what Green brings to GS' team with his versatality to defend basically everyone.

They won't be favored over the Thunder, Cavs or Spurs without Green. They can't play small with Draymond. He's the most important piece to them playing the style that they play.

Its not like they can't sign someone else.

No, I fully understand it. I'm not paying a guy that's only offense is hope the defense closes out on Curry and Klay so I'm wide open. He certainly has value on defense, but it's not like there aren't other players that can play defense.

They don't need to pay Klay for a few years and I can't think of a better use of resources than locking Dray up in a pre cap explosion max. They'll have plenty of money to pay everyone.

You sign a guy to the max that helps you win titles. It's undeniable what his impact is on winning.

Play great defense on five positions. Be able to run the fast break. Hit open threes.

Please. Find me a player that can do that that is available and a better value than Dray.

I'm not even sure there are more than 5 players in the nba that can do what Green does. Doesn't make him top 5 but it sure as hell makes him unique.

Pelton:

Last team: Golden State Warriors

3-year value: $88 million

2015-16 RPM: +6.4

2015-16 Win%: .551

Hopefully the last three games of the NBA Finals finished off any debate about whether Green is worth a maximum salary. By this projection, the max undervalues Green, largely because of his sky-high RPM -- eighth best in the NBA last season.

Last team: Golden State Warriors

2014-15 salary: $915,243

Suggested AAV: $17.5 million/year ($70.2 million over four years)

FA status: Restricted free agent

Green was one of the best bargains in basketball last season, making less than $1 million while playing the role of Golden State's most versatile defensive player en route to the championship. Andre Iguodala's virtuoso performance during the Finals will make it hard to remember that Green was probably the best defender for the Warriors in the first two rounds, and played a vital role in slowing down New Orleans wunderkind Anthony Davis. We've talked several times about irreplaceability on this list, but Green is truly irreplaceable, and not only because of Golden State's inflexible cap situation. I don't know how many players in the league can legitimately guard all five positions well, but that list is very short (we had a guy like that in Phoenix in Shawn Marion, and he was a max player for us as well).

Play great defense and do a decent job at hitting open 3s?

Yes, at around 3 mil a year since GS is over the cap.

There's pretty much nothing out there to replace what he does.

Hell, i'm not sure there's more than 3-5 players who can do what he does.

He cannot guard all 5 positions. I understand he's a great defender, but that's going overboard. He's not guarding 1 and 2s and he had a ton of trouble guarding centers last year (70% eFG%).

He shot 34%, which is nice, but not a great threat especially when I would be the majority of them are wide open 3s.

The part that only makes sense to me is because of the lack of ability to sign other players. Im no cap expert, but how do they build around Klay/Curry/Green if all 3 are maxed out for the future? If it's difficult to max out all 3, Green is the first one to go, imo. I don't see how you max a with such a limited offensive game.

Oh but he can guard all 5 positions. This is how I know you weren't paying attention. The Warriors switched EVERYTHING. That's a hall mark of their defense.

When you can play him at center and not get burned and he can pop out and hit 3's at an above average rate then you can comfortably call him a freaking steal at the max.
