Rome's Wes Parsons pitched a complete game two-hitter and Chase Anselment's fifth-inning homer accounted for all the scoring as the Rome Braves blanked the Lexington Legends 1-0 Sunday. The nine-inning game was played in record setting time of 1:44 which sets a new record for Rome as the shortest game in history.

It didn't take long, but the Rome Braves defeated Lexington 1-0 Sunday in front of a crowd of 2,008 at State Mutual Stadium. A solo home run gave Wes Parsons enough offense to get the complete game shut out in an hour and 44 minutes The previous record of 1:49 was set in 2006 against the Hickory Crawdads in a 3-2 Rome win.

The only hits for Lexington were two bunt singles by Raul Mondesi, one in the first inning, one in the fourth. Parsons (4-6) struck out eight batters and walked none. It was the first career complete game and shutout for Parsons, who was an undrafted free agent who was siigned in 2012, but did not debut until this season.

Anselment led off the bottom of the fifth inning with his third home run of the year. It was the first earned run given up by Legends starter Greg Billo after 19 and two-thirds innings with Lexington.

Braves are just amazing at finding these guys. Hopefully Parsons becomes another Beachy.

Agreed. Braves seem to scour the post-draft action more than other organizations. Parsons was draft-eligible in 2012, but when he went undrafted, he was eligible to be signed as an undrafted free agent and the Braves signed him out of the Northwoods League (summer college baseball league).

Its not like this guy is just doing well because he is much older than everyone else. He is still 20 years old.

Anyone have a scouting report? I love his size and at 20 years old he might fill out a little more. Does he throw hard?

Throws in the low 90s. Golf was his main sport in high school. His dad had ideas about him being a professional golfer, but he loved baseball more.

Shae Simmons promoted from Rome to Mississippi. They waited a long time to promote this guy and when they finally did they skipped him a level.

I had thought maybe Simmons would go to Lynchburg and John Cornely, who has been lights out in Lynchburg the last couple months, would be the one to go to Mississippi.

Rico, have any info on Alden Carrithers?

Dude owns a .297 career minor league AVG and a .403 career OBP. And it looks like he plays multiple positions, including in the infield. I know he's old, but you'd figure someone with those sort stats would at least get a cup of tea in the majors as a utiliy guy.
