Nikki Haley To Call For Confederate Flag To Be Removed From South Carolina Capitol:

Home insurance isn't required. Neither is renter's insurance. Car insurance is required by the state because you need to be able to cover injuries to other drivers - I'm generally OK with that.

These are horrible examples

I think a vast majority of mortgage companies require home insurance, but once the mortgage is paid off your position is correct.

Those are examples of insurance rates that vary at the whim of the insurer. You are correct in saying it is not required unless, like 50 pointed out.
All the same, someone that is able to pay off a house and doesn't have home insurance is ...
I don't wonder if some sort of liability insurance is not required by some home owners associations

In the abstract you are free to not have it. In real life only a fool would not have it.

Question, do you think the Pauls have home insurance ?
Do you think their rates are the same they were the day they purchased the policy ?
The same from a year ago ?

I'm sure all of the families of Confederate veterans in Minnesota appreciated having the Confederate flag featured on the Hartland, Minnesota, fire truck in the Albert Lea, Minnesota, 4th of July parade.

If you think I'm arguing against having health or home insurance, you are not very bright

I think you are arguing the abstraction / mirage / ghost / fantasy of "freedom" . Not only when it comes to health insurance --
You make the same argument no matter the topic.

As it even applies to the topic of this thread, the rebel flag. Be it guns, or business regulation ... on and on and on
Be thankful you didn't come of age when I did when it was mandatory for every 18 year old male to serve.
Having to be a part of a health care pool ain't ****
////

But what is clear is you haven't the foggiest notion of how insurance in general works.

I think people should be able to fly whatever flag they want... do you?

THAT is going overboard with political correctness.

Here's an article arguing that the Pentagon, in a jingoistic wave, is really to blame for bringing the confederate flag back to life.

With Spain defeated, President William McKinley took a victory tour of the South, hailing the “the valor and the heroism [that] the men from the south and the men of the north have within the past three years... shown in Cuba, in Puerto Rico, in the Philippines, and in China.”

“When we are all on one side,” the president said, “we are unconquerable.” It was around this time that, after much delay, Congress finally authorized the return of Confederate flags captured by Union forces during the Civil War to the United Confederate Veterans.

Flying the stars and bars, a traitorous and anti-democratic symbol, should be a federal offense, punishable by a $100 fine and having flag confiscated. But let local police enforce it as they like.

I expected better of Albert Lea.

Didn't it actually begin when a lunatic white supremacist slaughtered nine innocent black people at Bible study?

no, it didn't -- had there not been national public outrage it would have been business as usual. The first mention of the flag after the shootings was a tweet by Black Lives Matter.
Young Black activists -- spare me Sharpton - Jackson

Witness the despicable reaction to even the thought that the flag was to be removed. All the way to the speeches on the SC House floor yesterday.

Heritage and Honor and States rights and all that hoooey.

sadly that event turned into a "debate" about flags instead of guns and mental health and watching and arresting hate groups etc

Interesting... no freedom of speech? or only freedom of speech that you agree with?

Interesting... no freedom of speech? or only freedom of speech that you agree with?

Its the representation of the symbol he is referring to.

There is no Freedom of Speech in this country and you know that. It only extends to certain areas of speech.

Let me say this...if you came to me and call me the N word, I would knock your head off, you will cry to the police because I hit you and you had freedom of speech to say it, but I can defend saying, it is word you shouldn't utter to my kind. So who should win, you displaying your rights of freedom of speech or my rights of doing my freedom of speech to knock you the eff out for disrespecting me? I will win because being intelligent when speaking or spoken to is what the government is trying to convey and as a country we really suck at it. This is why we have this rule.

Oh, I wouldn't hit you if you said it. I would give you a look of "come on, you are better than that" look. And I have been called the "N" word a lot in my lifetime and no one has died because of it......yet. Or even assaulted. Sav calls me an angry old man, in life, I am the opposite, loud yes, opinionated yes, but that is the Chicago-born in me. My CEO brother and my sisters are several times more violent than I am.
