What was OKC supposed to do? Let a 20-10 center just walk?
Don't you think his offensive numbers are going to get even better with KD in? KD doesn't care about scoring anymore. Kanter is going to have his best offensive season of his career.
Now, we all know the defense is awful. But the idea is that he can improve to just being bad and then having lineups with Ibaka/KD/Roberson in there will help mask his deficiencies.
You can have the best defensive center in basketball (arguably Bogut) and if teams are going small those guys are going to have to sit down because they are liabilities on offense. Now if a team goes small against OKC they have hte option to match going small or leaving Kanter our, obviously have big problems defensively, but then just dominante inside on offense.
All the bad things about Kanter are not embelished. He is really really bad on defense but this is one of hte top 5 offensive big men in the game. He can score facing the basket, back to the basket, on the roll to the rim and can even extend to the 3 point line (which he will do more as his career progresses). That has a lot of value and when you are one of the 2 or 3 teams that has an elite rim protecting 4 that can stretch the floor then certain things work for you that don't for other teams. Lets see how it goes because even if OKC's defense is bad with Kanter, I have a lot of faith that htey will be the best offensive team in basketball next year as long as the big players stay healthy.
