Hearing Aramis Ramirez is going to Pittsburgh. If someone else had this before me, blame my kids. But it's happening.

Sources: Pirates and Brewers nearing agreement on a trade that would send 3B Aramis Ramirez to Pittsburgh.

#Dbacks getting lots of calls on Brad Ziegler. Telling teams they'd have to be "overwhelmed'' to move him. 1.08 ERA in 41.2 I

Overwhelmed for a reliever? Geez, the D-Backs are a stupid organization.

One less potential suitor for Uribe.

Got a feeling things are about to break loose in a BIG way.

Aramis Ramirez is indeed coming to join the @Pirates. Pittsburgh is sending RHP Yhonathan Barrios to the @Brewers.

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez and cash considerations have been traded to Pittsburgh in exchange for minor league RHP Yhonathan Barrios.

Fangraphs write-up on Barrios from April . . .

30. Yhonathan Barrios, RHP Video: The 5’11/180 Dominican reliever converted to the mound late in 2013 and played at both A-Ball levels in 2014. His delivery is low effort for a reliever, he sits 94-98 and hits 100 mph with above average life and also mixes in a solid average changeup and a fringy slider. His command that isn’t that bad, given the conversion and arm speed, and he’s still learning to pitch, so there’s more upside here.

This actually gives us a decent idea of what we can get for Uribe if we send no cash to the acquiring team. His baseball value is similar to that of Ramirez, and the $3m sent comes close to making the $ cost equal.

Completely agree. The Braves could have (and should have) done better, but this is far from a franchise crippling move. Signing a 30-year old David Price to an 8-year deal . . . now that's the type of thing than can be a franchise crippling move if you're a mid-market team.

Who's going to sign Price for 8?

I expect he will get something between what Lester and Sherzer got with the years having an effect on the per year total.

Fair point. Scherzer was the comp I had in mind, and I thought is was 8 yrs off the top of my head. It's actually 7 for $210m.

Price WON'T get 7 years guaranteed money. He'll likely get 6 with some type of option and he'll likely average between $25-$28M. The market this year is different from other years. price likely won't be the top FA pitcher available. That will probably be Greinke. Then you've got a number of guys right below that level in Zimmerman, Gallardo, Cueto, Smardzjia, etc.

I think Price has more value than Greinke, personally. He's two years younger and that will definitely be a factor. Price is really well thought of in the clubhouse, and Greinke's personality is . . . unique. As you point out, it will be interesting how the different market conditions will effect how much the top guys get. I'm guessing it won't be a big factor, but we'll see.

I think Uribe should have a little more value, but we'll see. Uribe has been worth 1 WAR just in his time in Atlanta, where Ramirez has been below replacement level this year. And Uribe put up about 8 combined the two years prior.

I think we can potentially get a pretty high-upside prospect. Nothing close to a Toussaint but better than what Milwaukee got.

Plus you don't know what the Brewers promised Ramirez. He's already said that he's retiring. Maybe they said they would trade him to a contender if they were out.

Uribe's not going to bring much but it will be better than what the Brewers got.

Price has more innings on the arm. But, the personality thing may play a part.
