Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Bowman said teams have called about markakis and he's not available. Maybe long get that is a good strategy. Maybe it's bad form to trade someone at the deadline you just signed to a multi year deal.

I'm not giving markakis away but if we aren't exploring moving him we are morons.

Wonder what our resident Nats fan (giles) thinks. Storen has been lights out as closer, seems overkill if it happened.

Two #Reds officials are watching #Nationals Class A RHP Erick Fedde tonight in Vermont.

Fedde was #Nationals’ first-round draft pick in 2014, 18th overall. Nats have expressed interest in #Reds closer Aroldis Chapman.

They need another arm and have huge starting pitching surplus, but I dont trade Fedde for Chapman. I would look more into a Jim Johnson for a C+ type trade

That's what I get for working off a faulty memory instead of looking it up.

Mea Culpa.

So......you're saying we should sign Price?:HeywardWut:

Your not really wrong. Greinke started pitching 6 months before he was drafted, Price has probably been pitching since he was 10. A lot of people think the root of the problem with all these arm injuries is from pitching when they are young. The bodies are still growing and they usually pitch too much and throwing breaking balls is bad for their arm at that age too. I wont be surprised if Price and Greinke both have TJ surgery in the next few years because its pretty much inevitable for every pitcher these days but I think when they do they will come back stronger with renewed velocity. I like both Price and Greinke long term. I have been swinging from Greinke's nuts since I heard the behind the scenes story of how the Royals came to pick him. You dont go from being a SS to the most polished pitcher in the draft in 6 months without being a special talent. I said Greinke was going to be the closest thing we see to Maddux again and he is having a Maddux-esque year right now. I bet he does well late in his 30's like Maddux because he doesnt need big time heat. He is doing his best this year with his slowest fastball velocity yet. I would offer both 5 years 150 million. Thats 30 million a year. The 5 years is key, it means they come off the books around the time we need to worry about re-signing all the prospects we have/will be graduating. I know for a fact both grew up as Braves fans. I know this wont be the most money total but if they have confidence in themselves they could cash in again after 5 years. Maybe, just maybe giving a higher amount per year plus their affinity to the Braves would be enough to lure one of them. I would sign them both and trade some of our pitching for hitting if it was up to me.

agree. Getting his contract off the books, would be awesome.

I think Uribe should have a little more value, but we'll see. Uribe has been worth 1 WAR just in his time in Atlanta, where Ramirez has been below replacement level this year. And Uribe put up about 8 combined the two years prior.

I think we can potentially get a pretty high-upside prospect. Nothing close to a Toussaint but better than what Milwaukee got.

Ramirez has actually been solid this year. Using Fangraphs 2015 WAR + ZIPS rest of season estimates, Ramirez is projected for 2.0 WAR. That same calculation for Uribe is 2.3 WAR.

Uribe probably has a small edge in a number of areas over Ramirez: slightly lower $ acquisition cost, more durable, bigger clubhouse impact. So I think we can get a better prospect than Barrios, but it won't be much better. I'd be fine with getting a near MLB ready relief prospect for Uribe that has upside and 3 minor league options.

Yeah, something in the same range as Barrios would be nice. I feel like we could use some good relief prospects. They could have a huge impact next season.

Absent a trade of Teheran or Maybin, we're not going to have a chance of getting anything more than a mid-level prospect for any of the guys we have available. I wouldn't even want to consider accepting a back end of the rotation prospect or a future utility guy. There are one of two types of prospects I'd go after.

The first type is relief arms. Relief prospects aren't nearly as prized as starter prospects with a few exceptions. You can get a pretty high ceiling relief arm relatively cheap (see Vizcaino). I would be looking to pick up as many big armed relief prospects as we could hoping that some pan out.

The other type of prospect I'd go after if we can't get a relatively close bullpen prospect is a lottery ticket. Look for guys who have great tools but are a long way off. Most of them will bust out but you only need one to capitalize on his potential to make it all worthwhile.

Agreed. I could care less about adding a future 4th OF, 5th starter, or utility guy. I'd use this method or try to bundle two guys like Uribe and JJ.

Oh you're right, I'm stupid. For some reason I looked at BR and saw a -0.2 WAR on him. Now I look and see he's at 2.3. So I don't know what I was doing, but it was pretty dumb.

Another door possibly closed on a Juan Uribe deal . . .

Angels have acquired Conor Gillaspie from the White Sox for cash.

Gillaspie will be short-term option at third for Angels while David Freese is out.
