Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Oh good lord, please don't let the Nats get Kimbrel. Screw the plan. Just get him back. Take control of him and trade him again later to someone else if they're determined not to keep him. Or suggest a three-way trade with another team and add a prospect to the pot to San Diego so that the Nats can't match. It's all a different kind of addition by subtraction by keeping him from the Nats during what should be the dawn of a new age of Braves baseball in 2017.

@jonmorosi: Jose Reyes likely to be flipped by #Rockies. Colorado has highly regarded shortstop prospect Trevor Story at Triple-A.

I love me some Kimbrel but fact of the matter is it is not smart to spend the money he makes on a closer or to give up valuable pieces for the privilege of paying him. If we have a good scouting department then they should be able to build a good pen on the cheap. We should be able to field a great pen just from the overflow of SP prospects either because we dont have room or they just cant stick in the rotation.

Yep, agreed. Never made sense to sign Kimbrel to that deal in the first place. We were lucky to get out from both his and Upton's contracts at the same time and get a great pitching prospect in Wisler. It makes zero sense for a mid market payroll team to be paying a closer 10 mil a year. Vizcaino will be able to provide 90% of the value of Kimbrel for cheap the next couple years.

It's kind of funny, but if Grilli hadn't gotten hurt, our pen would be alright (sans Avilan) right now. At some level, it's hard to believe we were able to find some measure of stability as the season wore on. Still can't figure out why some of the teams looking for bullpen arms weren't in on Frasor when KC let him go.

I'd like to see the Nats trade 1 or 2 of their top prospects to get Chapman or Kimbrel. They are not built to sustain their current talent level much longer, so the more chips they push into the middle of the table for 2015-2016 the better. What worries me is that Rizzo has made some really shrewd trades, and I fear he'll get someone like Kimbrel without giving up much.

Damn, that becomes a pretty sensational deal for Colorado IF they are able to move Reyes' salary and get prospects.

Dodgers willing to listen on Puig

Any takers?

Could his bone-headedness be tamed in the ATL with a Cuban born manager?

What would be the asking price? Alex Wood + a top prospect?

He would be an entertaining and polarizing figure in RF for the next 3 years adding power and speed to the offense and still give us financial flexibility to add a TOR starter this off season.

I would love to have Puig actually. I'm not a huge fan of him, but if anyone might be able to get his attitude under control, it might be Fredi G. Not sure i'd want to give up Wood for him, but if we are talking Teheran, it'd be hard not to at least listen and strongly consider it

We would actually have him through the 2019 season. Would be great to pick him up with his value near the lowest it will probably get.

I would disagree. They have a pretty solid long term base. Harper (for at least a couple more years, Rendon, Turner, Taylor, Giolito, Ross, Storen, Lopez plus some mid tier type prospects. And they have 40 million coming off the books at the end of this season.

I would not trade Giolito, Ross, or Turner for Kimbrel though. Turner makes a little sense (because they have several SS options), but I think he's a keeper.

I get the feeling if the Dodgers are willing to trade a 24 year old with a WAR over 5 each of the past two years, you have to wonder what kind of a headache this guy is. Puig is having an off year with the injuries but there's no reason to think he wont continue to be an excellent player. I would be cautious before taking that on.

Tulo is going to be an albatross.

Here are his games played:

07-155

08-101

09-151

10-122

11-143

12-47

13-126

14-91

15-87

He's 30 so he's on the bell curve trending downward (backed up by his big decline in walks and increase in K's this year) His power is down. He's hitting .300 due to an unusually high BABIP and has benefited from playing in Colorado.

He's gets something like 20 mil per year all the way to 2019 plus 14 mil in 2020. And he now has a full no trade clause.
