Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Yeah they apparently asked for Manny Machado in a deal involving Justin Upton and one of their SP

So, AJ Preller is basically using the comments section on a Padres blog to determine the trade value of his players? It's like the real life version of ChopCountry posters suggesting we trade Alex Wood for Corey Seager.

Wasn't it Murph that would do that on the old Scout board? Is Murph on this board?

Yeah, ole Murph -- I saw months and months ago that he made a brief cameo on the Scout board, told everybody that he didn't really follow baseball much anymore ... but then proceeded to spit out 3-4 outlanding trade scenarios.

They just don't make them like they used to.

The Padres did not trade the equivalent of the top pitching prospect in baseball and another top 50 guy for Kimbrel.

Just a little stroll down memory lane:

They added $56MM of another team's debt.
Gave up the 41st pick the draft.
Gave up a starter that was ranked 50-100 (I can't remember what in the preseason).
Another prospect (who I forgot the Braves traded for an International Draft slot)
1 WAR outfielder with two years control.

Damn, that was a great trade.

I've never had a great memory, but I'm struggling to think of a more lopsided MLB trade in the past few years. It's still really, really hard to believe Preller said yes to that . . . even with Maybin considered a salary dump at the time. When the Braves do their end of season awards, A.J. Preller should be named executive of the year.

Beautiful.

Mets close to a trade for a big bat, per twitter, oh boy.

Upton?

Guessing Jay Bruce, CarGo maybe?

Marc Carig ‏@MarcCarig

Told Mets are indeed very close to pulling off a big trade. No sense of who it is, but chance it’s a big bat.

@MartinoNYDN: Cespedes out, Reds not moving Bruce at moment, I'm told. Parra trade fell apart last week. Mets almost certainly not on CarGo.
