Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

Then you don't trade him. The answer is not to simply allow the other team to devalue all your assets. If we are stuck with Wood through 2019 and Peraza, that's a pretty good consolation prize for not being able to get a deal done.

Getting rid of both for Olivera and little else is just stupid. The D-Backs were stupid when they traded Touki, and this would be stupid.

You don't have to evaluate everything with a 'Our FO would never make a bad deal, so let me find out how this is good' lens. Sometimes it's just a bad, stupid deal.

And if Wood follows the path of Beachy/JJ/Hanson then you are left holding the bag for nothing.

Im definitely far from the highest on Peraza here. I like him but have my doubts about him offensively. I could deal with Wood for Olivera....don't agree but understand if they feel that strongly about his bat. But in no way does Peraza, Johnson, AND avilan fit in this. Should have been wood for olivera.

Peraza, Johnson, and Avilan for Rodriguez, the draft pick, and Bird is fine. Its not like Peraza is elite and Johnson and Avilan don't have much value. Wood for Olivera is what I don't get.

@MarkBradleyAJC: Re: Alex Wood. #Braves love his tenacity but worry about his delivery. He has already had Tommy John. Another round and he's Beachy/Medlen.

Hart and the gang wanted him bad, and were willing to do whatever it took to get him.

If the Mets made this trade, no one questions it. You can say 2017 if you want but you're still assuming Olivera is even good then or good now for that matter.

I think it's a worthwhile bet that he's a good hitter the next couple of seasons at the MLB level. Everything is a bet essentially. So for 2017 it makes some sense, but the price of Peraza and Wood is way too high assuming the prospects we get in return is as reported. I would not make the trade as reported.

I was the biggest supporter for signing Olivera, but losing out and now trading a ton for him is just insane. If this happens I am taking a break from Braves baseball.

What woudl we have said if the Braves traded Beachy for Cain many years back? Same thing with JJ or Hanson. These pitchers are fickle and I think Teherans struggles are making the Braves think to flip these pitchers at a high point.

You have to judge the trades as they happen. You are essentially saying its a good deal bc Im positicenwe are getting impact bat and the piece we are giving up will suck and get hurt.

What if Wood turns into Hanson? What if he turns into Kershaw?

It's not about trading Wood. It's about who we traded him for. If the Braves had traded Beachy, JJ, or Hanson for a 30 year old cuban who no MLB expiernce who has medical concerns I wouldn't like those either. Regardless of the fate of the pitcher since you can't predict they will get hurt because someone else did.

You're not getting it. You can't play crystal ball with trades and then change a player's current value based on that. If the Braves think Wood will be injured, then go get his current value for him and when he does get injured, you ended up with a great deal.

Don't go get lesser value for him because you've decided he will be worth less down the road.

If Touki never makes it, we gave up $10 million for nothing. Bad deal. But that's not how deals are made. The $10 million is worth the possibility of him making it. Olivera is not worth the possibility that Wood doesn't get hurt and Peraza turns into a good SS.
