Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

I understand the thinking behind this trade b/c we definitely need a potential bat to protect Freeman in the order.. BUT, we severely overpaid. I understand we are getting the marlins draft pick, but we should have gotten a prospect back better than Zach Bird. Plain and simple. For what we gave up, we should be getting a lot more back imo.. I REALLY hope we dont end up regretting this trade....

In the Hamels deal, there were several other pieces that came out after the deal was "finalized." Thompson, Harrison and Asher were not known to be included. My only hope is that there are multiple pieces here that have yet to be reported.

Getting Olivera on a very team friendly deal is certainly nice. Olivera has great bat speed and plays a position of need for us, but at 30 years old. Just seems like we gave up an awful lot for him. I guess we have to wait till it's official to see all the pieces.

If Peraza isn't in the deal, which MLBTR's latest headline kind of indicates, it's not nearly as bad. Wood for Olivera isn't terrible. A cost-controlled, apparently very talented hitter at a position of big need. I love Wood as much as the next guy, but far from terrible.

The sticking point for me in this trade is the inclusion of perraza. I don't understand why the Braves had to do that.

I like Wood and I'm going to miss him, but this team is in some dire need of offense. I'm tired of watching 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 games. I'm not sure if Oliveria is the answer we're looking for considering his health concerns, but I think it's a chance the Braves had to take. My only qualm is the inclusion of Perraza.

Don't get your hopes up. They mentioned additional Minor leaguers were involved in the hamels deal. We know we're getting Olivera, Paco, Bird and the pick

I'd rather trade wood to get Gomez from brewers

Gomez is at $9MM next year, is close to the same age, has his own health issues, is an OFer (which we do need, but 3B is more pressing), and is a FA after 2016. The positive of him is that he's a proven major leaguer, but his peak years may be over.

Think I'd rather gamble on Olivera at his $$. JMO.

you had me until here. i'm sure they covered their bases on this. there's too much at stake.

I think they've covered their bases and know what the flags are. But the Braves brass is as human as anyone else. Every GM falls in love with a guy at times and as a result they build up their positive attributes and downplay the red flags. It happens all the time. Look at CJ's extension. There were huge red flags but Wren got it in his head that the Johnson that challenged for the batting title was the real guy and signed him to a terrible contract.

Thought Gomez was signed through '17. Yeah, I was wrong there

I gotcha, ok. I can agree with that upon the further clarification.

I was hoping all of this would have gone away by the time I woke up.

Something something morning wood.

680 the fan said deal is not finalized yet. Lots of paperwork and Medicals that need to check out first. So it is entirely possible the Braves doctors get the medicals on oliveras elbow and leg and say no way....or the trio leading this team wake up after a night of heavy drinking and pull the plug on this mistake of a trade
