Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

We save $4M on Arroyo's buyout next year.

Plus whatever he was owed this year.

But everyone assures me we can't carry money over so that's meaningless

Its 4.5 million buyout and 9.5 for a full season this year. (we are about 60% done with the season).

Bronson was never in our plans in the first place. We took on his deal and sent it to LA to help offset some of the cash....so we save $10mil or so on his deal so it's like getting 5 and a half years of olivera for about $22mil

And I would rather a team like us, rebuilding with a set budget from year to year, to spend a little more and get more talent in return. Which has been our plan...until now.

My only worry is that we save all this money by trading away these guys and Liberty doesn't do anything with it. My confidence in Liberty actually letting us spend is at 0. I'm sure they are thrilled with all the savings as of late...

This is another point to consider. Pick Braves get is now #34, but will move up a slot each time a team sign's another team's QO free agent this winter.

Braves receive IF Hector Olivera, LHP Paco Rodriguez, RHP Zack Bird and the Marlins' 2016 competitive-balance draft pick, likely in the 20s.

Inclusion of Arroyo HUGE difference from what was reported earlier. In a sense, the Braves can consider Touki as part of the return in this LAD trade. Makes situation considerably better.

Each individual trade should be judged on its own. We didn't have to make this deal so tying it to another deal to make it seem better doesn't make sense.

We get it. The FO does no wrong.

It doesn't matter what we traded for Uribe... he had value and we gave him away.

Regardless of that deal though - which doesn't mean a lot. This is one of the worst deals I can remember. I can't fathom how LAD talked Peraza into the deal.

So the Dodgers gave Uribe away to us...and we got more for him than we gave up..........

All the rentals are being traded... not gonna be a ton of QOs

Just to repeat, difference of about $10m in actual completed trade versus what was discussed last night. Call it getting Touki, call it Hector for 5 for$22m. Whatever you call it, it's a significant change in this deal in the Braves favor.

Between the ~$30M in signing bonus savings and Dodgers taking on Arroyo deal, Braves gave up Wood/Peraza to get Olivera for 5 years, ~$22M.

Also: I never said the FO can do no wrong, so what's the point of the hyperbole? I said, from the get-go, I don't love this deal initially and don't particularly like it. But I'm not going to whine, and I'm going to give the FO the benefit of the doubt after its many, many good moves recently.

So, for 2016:
M. Smith CF
Maybin RF
Freeman 1B
Olivera 3B
Markakis LF
Peterson 2B
Simba SS
C-Beth C

IF we go after a really solid catcher and succeed, that's honestly not a bad lineup.

If we can solidify the rotation with a true anchor, we'd be set as well.

I'm not happy about the trade, but I do understand it. We NEED Olivera to be a boss.

Maybe we'll make a big splash with Julio... I can't see this being it... there has to be something more that was planned if this were to go through.

I sincerely love reading the whining.
We traded crap for Uribe and signed KJ for nothing...and yet some are whining about the return for those guys. What?

Wood is not near the impact guy Price, Hamels, and Cueto are. Those guys win you a WS at their best.

You're undervaluing Wood. He has performed far closer to Hamels and even Price than you think.

Have say there's something seriously wrong with your memory, then, Be it short-term (Teixeira) or timeless (Barker).

The deal is quite a bit more attractive with the inclusion of Arroyo.... still worried Olivera can't stay healthy, though. Sounds like they examined the hell out of his medical charts, though.

I like what our FO has done and judged those deals on their merits right away, so I'll do the same here. The value we got for a Wood and Peraza is far less than their actual value.
