Farewell to Wood, Peraza, Jimmy Johns, and Avilans.

I think Wood EASILY gets David Price.

I would bet he could easily get us a top 20 prospect. Maybe not Seager... but someone who could be an impact player. I really wish we would try to pull something with Cubs for one of their many bats.

But between Markakis and Olivera, we have a lot of ... experience
plus veteran leadership, grit, clutchness and maturity

I'm scared.

I liked pretty much everything Hart and Co. did up to the Fredi extension. In fact, I'll say I've absolutely loved most of the moves. But with the Fredi extension, and the moves that have followed, I really don't know what the hell is going on in there anymore, and what exactly the plan is.

I'm scared.

I liked the direction we we're going, and now it just seems like we are moving backwards.

I don't like this move it all.

Check out what Olivera did in admittedly a small sample in the minors this year, then to see what Nick a Williams did. For a young, rebuilding team, I'm taking Williams over Olivera.

I like Williams, but to take any of the three of Olivera is odd to me. This is by far Williams' best season. In 2014 he struck out a ton and walked hardly at all. And NO WAY you take Alfaro over Olivera.

He would get us Price. For the rest of the year.
I'd rather have Olivera for 5 than Price for a half.

I think part of the reason some of us are so against the trade, aside from a simple valuation, is because we thought and hoped the Braves viewed 2017 as the beginning, not the endpoint.

Obviously they're trying to build something long-term, but I think this move shows they're more focused on 2017 as an endpoint than we hoped. They will probably be willing to sacrifice some long-term value for short-term value in order to make sure 2017 is a good team. I don't like that.

If we sign a couple guys this off-season and Olivera produces, we could be good next year. It's far from a guarantee that we're doomed next year.

I guess the question becomes if the Dodgers are picking up the tab on Arroyo (which there has been conflicting reports on this) does this actually make the trade Gosselin, Wood, Peraza, Jim Johnson, and Avilan for Tossaint, Olivera, PacoRod, Bird, and the 34th pick? Does that make people feel better about it?

With prospects, the most important season is always the most recent, and he's out up an OPS of over .800 at every stop.

I may have overstated, but I would easily take any 2 of the 3 instead of Olivera, and given the state of our team, I'd take Williams alone over Olivera.

I don't like Olivera, not as something with much value in a trade. He is 'cheap' only if he actually produces, he's 30 with significant risk, and he was blocked with the Dodgers. That makes little sense for the Braves unless we view 2017 as a 'must win' year at the expense of future value. Which I wouldn't like.

Why does this move make you think that? Braves are still investing heavily in the future.

I say it's not a bad guess that we really could be solid.

Yeah, I think our pitching should be good and Olivera could easily be an improvement over our 3B situation, even if you include Uribe's time.

I just don't think this trade dooms us. That's silly. And I'm not a huge fan of it.
