Miller has the unfortunate certainty that as soon as he gives up a run, he's on the hook for the "L."

Hate to say it, but Hart sold me a little bit in that interview.

Still not crazy about the trade though.

I can see why they did it. If Olivera is what many think he is then we are paying him a 3rd of what his market value is. If they use the perceived savings of that value and actually get some top tier players then the Braves could become pretty good pretty quick.

Which is basically what Hart said in the interview. I just hope he comes through on his plans.

Could you recap what he said? I only have the away broadcast.

Main points:

creates financial flexibility by shedding payroll,
gives more depth to our system,
gets us closer to our goals going into next year and more importantly 2017,
puts Olivera behind Freeman in the batting order so pitchers have to be more honest to Freddie,
we've been stockpiling arms and it's time to trade those to improve our offensive production

I can get behind some of the rationale used. I don't really understand this adding depth. We got Bird but gave up Peraza, though we do get the pick.

I also don't understand all the financial flexibility this gives up. The only thing we shed was Arroyo, which wasn't much. We may have created some if Olivera produces for cheap, but Wood was also cheap.

I'm fine if they want to start building now, but I want us to trade our surplus of young pitching for young hitting, even if it's not major league ready. I don't want to go get some guys 30 and older.

I wasn't saying I agreed or disagreed with Hart's comments. I was merely trying (at thethe's request) to summarize what Hart said on the Braves broadcast since he's stuck with the Phillies announcers.
