Implications of the Trade

If we decided to go after Braun I'd want us to take on the whole salary to lessen the prospects. However I think it will be more short term money like Arroyo and Cahill if we take on salary for prospects. Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn are two that makes sense with valuable assets like Zimmer and Frasier.

Why would Cle deal him?

He has a team friendly deal for the next 3 years after this one, would take a haul to land him.

Why do any teams deal their top players?

Yes it likely takes a haul. Luckily we have a some good talent to trade them.

Another player I would take on chance on, given the money we have available, is CarGo. Could probably get him on the cheap if we took the entire contract.

Yeah....that's why we need a new GM or whatever the hell he calls himself. Or why he should have his head checked.

If I'm gonna trade a guy like Wood, I want it to be for someone who's actually hit at the MLB level.

Eh, Hart has done alot good and some bad. Lets see what happens this winter before saying Hart should be fired.

But Wood is overrated around these parts, hes more of a #3 than an ace or #2.

The only real issue with Wood is his durability. His performance so far in his career suggests a #2 starting pitcher. #3 starters are pretty much league average guys who can give you a lot of innings. I would assume you think Wood is better than league average.

And Olivera might hit 20 home runs one day if his elbow stays healthy.

If a GM is gonna give a solid young starter and highly-rated prospect for that because he fell in love with the guy after a couple workouts, I don't want him running the front office.

Frank Wren made some incredibly shrewd trades that helped this team compete when he wasn't getting adequate support from ownership to put a real championship team on the field.

But everyone was perfectly happy to throw him under the bus when Uggla crashed and burned and the BJ contract turned into a disaster.

Championship team?

Debateable.

I liked Wren but the BJ/Uggla contracts were bad, and the farm system was one of the worst in all of baseball, now it could very well be the best in all of baseball depending what happens this winter.

Minus the 2nd half of last year. We went from a good team with a bad farm system to a bad team with a good farm system.

The BJ/Uggla contracts were bad but also unfortunate. I mean I don't think anybody expected both scenarios to play out the way they did. Even the skeptics of the deal didn't imagine that. The two worst case scenarios with both happened.

I probably would have kept Wren, but i can understand why they fired him, kept Hart and did what they did.

It's not debatable.

During his tenure: Did we win a division or not? Did we make the playoffs 3 times (almost a 4th if it weren't for a blown call)? Did we win the 2nd most games in the NL when he was at the helm?

What are the criteria for a 'championship' team? Does winning not count?

There's no disputing that Wren built some very, very solid teams with a limited payroll while producing a lot of useful talent.

Can you make the argument that Wren was leading the Braves down the road to perdition? Sure, a lot of people definitely seem to believe that.

But to say that it is 'debatable' whether or not his teams were championship caliber? Nah.

I thought 2011 was our best shot at a title run, but of course we had to play in that stupid WC-game.

I dont think the 13-14 offense work in the playoffs which is why i said that.

That was 2012. 2011 was the first disastrous September under Fredi. Ended up missing the Wild Card by 1 game after going 9-18 in September.
