8/1/2015 MINORS SAT. THREAD ... Jenkins, Toussaint, Soroka Shine in spotlight

Considering he's a brave, probably TJ

I know some love to say the Braves go after players with torn UCLs or that they are the cause of torn UCLs. In both cases, it is a generalized statement that doesn't hold water. If it was Billy Beane buying low on injured players, he would be hailed as some genius who was exploiting a market. Since the Braves do it though, and since they trust their scouts more than they trust numbers, it's a poor strategy.

The plethora of UCL injuries in baseball recently is directly caused by what these players are doing when they are 10-13 years old, throwing too often, throwing too many pitches, too much competitive pitching, and not allowing their arms to rest.

Austin Riley 2 for 6 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI tonight. The milb.com site still doesn't have any stats for him on his player card page. Slugging .800 at Danville right now.

This is just one reason I always look at Baseball-Reference.com first.

I'm excited about Allard, but I think Soroka is going to be the one to surprise everyone by being a force... love that he flew under the radar slightly because of being in Canada.

Soroka isn't going to be 18 for a couple more days, has already been moved up to Danville and has a 17/3 K/BB in 14 IP. That's pretty impressive.

For some reason, Riley's stats don't show up at milb.com. Didn't in the GCL and they haven't upgraded his page. Nice start at Danville for him.

Liking Soroka as well. He's from Canada, but he pitched in a lot of showcases in the states so he wasn't totally under the radar. Tall, lanky kid who looks like he could fill out a bit as he gets older. Here's video and draft synopsis of him from mlb.com.

Has a little whip action in his arm that concerns me a bit, but he has a nice loose delivery.

I referenced Ryan Klesko in a post about Austin Riley and came across this picture of Riley. He even kind of looks like Klesko. Riley's a big kid and some scouts had concerns about his weight, but it looks like the guy can hit some.

He's going to be huge for us the next few years.
