When I finally got through the transcripts of the first video, I found the whole thing was a let-down. The case wasn’t about what it seemed to be about based on the selected excerpts we had been offered. I was expecting a smoking gun, unequivocal proof, of two big things: that Planned Parenthood was selling fetal organs for profit, and that it was harvesting organs from late-term abortions. Instead, I found that the cases being discussed were mostly in the first trimester, and the quote about clinics wanting to “better than break even” was surrounded by at least eight flat statements (including the very next sentence) that Planned Parenthood was not looking to make a profit and didn’t regard this as a revenue stream.

And the only claim I'd advanced in this thread, until your call-out, was that a very large component of the furor surrounding this story—at least from what I've read and heard—ultimately arrives back to that message, and is charged with naked vitriol regarding Planned Parenthood qua total institution. This is opposed to outrage purely at the facts of the scandal (and the attendant calls for specific and acute reforms), which one might expect if the concerns are really monetary (as [MENTION=266]Hawk[/MENTION] suggests) or consent-based (as you suggest).

While I'm somewhat skeptical of both assumptions, I find the latter (re consent) much more tenable, as I think people who wouldn't otherwise object to some act often find it objectionable when it happens without their volition.

A little friendly tip ? It really makes no difference which source ou go to. Whether left wing or right wing etc. I generally try reading news sources that have a track record of getting the story right. Once I have the story -- you know-- right----- then I can make up my mind on policies etc etc.

You've given me your reading list -- but, how / do you still get so many stories wrong ?

That is not what happened. Or ever happened or is going to happen.

And there are reputable sources no less than the an investigation prompted by "paleoconservative Governor.. " to the blog the Federalist.

Perhaps a little less zealotry and a little more patience on your part.

I just don't think the furor over this issue came from the pro life folk. I struggle to understand why they've failed to gain a foot hold until now.

I think there are a group of folks who are sitting back thinking, ok well you can abort these fetuses as long as you do it in a humane way and with respect to the fetus and the mother. I think that trust was broken. What does it mean for humanity going forward?
 
As someone pointed out, if you want abortions to increase, go ahead and defund Planned Parenthood and cut off birth control to millions of people.

I'm all about birth control. I'm not all about forcing people to pay for others.

That's just a difference between you and me. You want to rob people - I don't. I believe in freedom, you don't. I believe in personal responsibility, you believe in government hand-holding.

i think poor people get robbed plenty. CEOs making $35MM on the backs of their workers is robbery. And you support it. therefore, you support robbing people.
 
better to make birth control more affordable than to have poor people give birth to kids that will have to be taken care of somehow.

Well, for one - you're not paying for a federal fire department.

For 2, yet another dumb example. The government isn't forcing anyone to work for a corporation. That individual chooses to. And how is someone getting robbed from a corporation, if that corporation is actually paying them? Your hatred for corporations is hilarious. Who do you work for? Unless you started your own business, perhaps you should be thankful that someone else did and is paying you to help him/her grow it.

CEOs make money that they frankly probably deserve when it comes to the market valuations. Similar to professional athletes and movie stars. The top talen gets paid the most - and the top talent usually makes key decisions that can earn or cost a company millions or billions of dollars.

But once again, you do hate freedom as you apparently want to cap what someone can earn. Pretty sad
