Peraza debuts for Dodgers

Oliver playing 2B doesn't help us b/c we have no other options at 3B.

Unless we get Uribe back next year and then move Jace out. I haven't seen a quote but it seems like organization is acting like Jace is the long term answer at 2B.

3B is an option for us to get an impact bat. I'd like to work out something with the Rockies for McMahon... not sure where he will play bc Arenado ain't going anywhere

I am a fan of Peraza. Hopefully he does well in the majors.I don't really care if it makes us look bad, we're the ones who made the trade not him. Hopefully he proves to be about as good as I expect him to be. A 2-3 WAR player consistently. Hopefully the Dodgers move him to a team who needs a SS though. His value is probably 10-20% lower at 2B.

Just seems like a case of the organization determining that he didn't project to be a difference maker with the bat, and selling high on him. No problem selling high, but you can get burnt sometimes. The lack of any power or walk ability did raise a red flag, he he doesn't profile as a leadoff hitter. Even though I'm not the biggest fan, still a bit of a head scratcher that he was included.

Also, how ironic that we were so worried to call him up because of service time/starting his clock, etc, and the Dodgers don't care and call him up immediately. Must be nice

As you say, Uribe? Or Kelly Johnson?

The question is, is Uribe (or maybe Johnson) a better option in the lineup than Jace? Does Jace have upside as a super sub and injury protection? Seems to me, this route gives us more flexibility in the very likely possibility of injury from, well, anybody.

I know it was started as joke but I'm skeptical if Olivera is really 30. After Duque, Livan, Contreras, Furcal (and was it Betemit also?) all lied about their ages, I'm fearful Olivera might be closer to 33-35.

Him being older would fit the way his numbers and health have tracked in recent years.

Where exactly did the Dodgers have to put him?

If he's as good and versatile as Hart thinks he is then they would have found a spot for him. Even if it was just as a super sub they would have found somewhere on the roster.

But it really wasn't being blocked that kept him in the minors. I think he was slow to start playing because of visa issues and then promptly strained his hamstring which he's been very, very slow to recover from.

I guess he wasn't good enough to unseat Justin Turner

And he's only see the field for 13 minor league games.

Just an unbelievable, and completely unnecessary risk, the FO took on this guy

Yep. The Dodgers bailed on him for a reason and it wasn't entirely based on Juntin Turner. From what I've read they signed him thinking he could play either third or second. When Turner broke out they didn't need him at third. Apparently watching him upclose they realized he's a pretty terrible second baseman these days. Since third was taken with Turner and Guerrero and he would be a liability at second, they dealt him. I wouldn't be surprised if they were worried about his ability to stay healthy too and wanted to get rid of him while he still had value.

so you're saying we should wait to judge it?

Well that's what shakes out for most trades. You can make the initial analysis, but in the end the judgement comes on the results.

Again I said decent as well. I don't see the Braves winning this trade unless Wood goes Beachy and Peraza forgets how to make contact.
