GDT 8/7/13: Braves (Medlen) @ Walgreens (Zimmerman) 7:05 PM

Braves can go into absolute cruise control for the rest of the season now after this sweep. Skip Julio a couple of times. Use Kimbrel twice every five games. Its going to be great.

Nope. The Braves will go after the best record in the league.

We needed a player that sounded good in the same sentence as "hero"...

I agree with him.

Do need to skip Julio a few times so he's fresh.

I'd rest Kimbrel until Saturday, give him some time off.

You need to calm down. It's not about his number of appearances. It's the fact that he's worked 5 of the past 6 nights and threw 30+ pitches tonight. I'm not criticizing Fredi at all for bringing him into this game, I'm just saying Kimbrel needs a few days off. Especially with this big lead in the division.

Fair, people act like he's been pitching every game.

I'd agree on resting him, sit him until Saturday.

He'll be fine, he's been fine, it was just obvious tonight he was tired having worked 5 of the last 6 games. With the off day tomorrow he'll be okay. But it would be nice to have a blowout Friday night and not need him. Also with such a big lead right now, even if you have a closing situation Friday Night I might use Walden just to give Kimbrel an extra day.

Walden, Avilan, and Downs all got the night off and could probably piece a couple of innings together. Sure would be nice to have a blow-out though.

Kimbrel is 40th in games appeared by RP.

You people need to calm down.

Take advantage of wins when you can get them.

It's not that I think he's being overworked or that I don't have the confidence.

I'd just:

A.) Like us to win a few more easy games, especially against the Fish.

B.) Like for my heart not to give out lol.

It's nice that we have a 13 game winning streak and all... I'm just glad BJ is making contact on the ball and not K'ing every at-bat

I'd love to see a 5 spot out of the gate Friday and a blowout win. Use Walden in save situations this weekend.

I think the health of the players is more important than best record. Thats just me.

We don't have to go all out for it to the point of injury or tiring guys out, but you can't deny it would be to our advantage to get homefield in the NL and avoid facing the Dodgers in a short series.

Might have to face the Dodgers regardless, but we will cross that bridge when the time comes.

He would be fine at shortstop if he can hit. It's not like he's coming in as a late defensive replacement for Simmons.

2 games and 10 innings at SS since 2008, so I guess I beg to differ. Of course, Janish is only a half hour away in Gwinnett if Simmons were to go down. I just think Janish's glove makes sense on the bench.

Well here's one thing to keep in mind: we have a very weak schedule. I'm not saying go full blast until the end of September, but let's do a little bit more than just cruise. Our team plays best at home, and having that home field advantage would be a real bonus. (now yes, I know how terrible the team is at home in the playoffs, but still!)

Some quotes from the Nats forum

"Aside from Harper, Werth, Stras, and Gio all these guys are heartless wusses. Might as well concede the rest of the season."

"LaRoche and Desmond are frauds. No heart.

This team is gutless."

Desmond is one of the ones I respect. Hell at least he hustled out there unlike Bush Harper.

I don't think Nats fans have figured out LaRoche just gets lost out there. Probably doesn't even realize he strikes out.

As long as Justin/Heyward are playing to their ability the Braves shouldn't be afraid of anyone. Those two are the key and having them at the top of the lineup was a brilliant move.

Not sure if the espn splits are updated but Upton has a 1.2 OPS in the #2 spot.
