When I was a kid some of my family took me to a Benny Hinn revival -- better than literally any live theater performance I've ever seen; people collapsing everywhere, possessed 'demons' screaming from the rafters of the arena, wheel-chaired people walking. It was intense, I've never forgotten it.
These same family members were involved in Jim Bakker's "Heritage Village"/PTL venture in Charlotte in the 70s/80s, then Morningstar Ministries (also in CLT) ... they've since moved back home and started what is now the largest Megachurch in town. Through them I've been exposed to the modern side of contemporary Christianity, and it's really interesting thing to be associated with (even by extension) provided you can keep it at arms length and clearly divide your personal faith from the kind of cult mentality -- especially in relation to 'giving' -- that you see in some of these larger churches.
