It was a dumb move to pitch around McCann. Sure McCann is a good hitter, but at worst it would be 2-0. Getting a young pitcher to pitch around a guy is a recipe for trouble IMO. If you wanna not pitch to a guy, intentionally walk him
 
I know he's been back only a few games but my gut instinct tells me Bethancourt just doesn't have it to be a starter. Still has problems with balls in the dirt and doesn't have enough bat speed to hit at this level. I hope I'm wrong.

Seems like he needs to widen his batting stance some. Might speed up his swing?

Well he's never shown anything to suggest he could be a big league hitter. Even when he was having a good time in AAA it was due to his 365 BABIP. Guys with a walk rate as low as his with next to no power rarely do much.
