We have nothing to say La Stella is a better or equal player, though. So what are you basing this on? If La Stella is a better hitter, it's insanely close. I don't even think he is, at all.
 
Peterson ranks 18th out of 21 qualified 2B in WAR... He's also not exactly young.

I think he'll improve his offense. It's kind of hard not to. But I think he needs to be a utility player only for a contending team

There's nothing resounding about either guy right now. And yes, Jace is faster, but he has some work to do on his running game.

Peterson has the potential to develop into a well rounded player. He has a little pop in his bat, good defense, good baserunning, and the ability to draw a walk. I'll take that kind of potential in a young cheap 2B.

Peterson is a better player than La Stella. 99% of stats back this up.
Peterson's base running has been positive this year. Steals is not the only part of base running.

I'm aware of that, and I never said otherwise. I said he had work to do on his running game. And his 11/21 steal attempts back this up. Do you disagree?

Jace is what he is. I like him. I repeat that there's nothing resounding about a guy who's putting up what he's putting up this year.

Young Athletic players tend to get better with experience. I agree that Jace has a lot of room to improve. After watching him this year, I expect a better player in the future.

I'd prefer his steal% to be much better, of course. He's still a good baserunner. Which is what I said.

I said he's clearly a better player than La Stella. Which is true.

Arguing about Jace Peterson and TLS—particularly since we agree on who's currently the better player—seems pretty silly since, to date, neither guy moves the needle at all. Which was my point. An Old Milwaukee is better than a Milwaukee's Best, but I wouldn't say it was resoundingly better because, yannow, who cares?

yeezus was on record earlier in the year about how good Jace was, right around the peak of his hot streak. I specifically remember a sarcastic comment that went something like "but I've been assured he can't be any better!!!"

Old Milwaukee versus Milwaukee's Best is actually probably a more interesting debate, permissive of more nuance and distinction, than Jace Peterson versus Tommy LaStella.

I know I projected a better hitting performance for La Stella than what we actually got in 2014 from him. I suspect many others did as well. I was skeptical about whether the glove would play. And others were as well. It remains to be seen what kind of career he has. But I think so far the bat has fallen short of the consensus, to the extent such a thing existed. Knucksie is irritating. But he is right once in a while.
 
Jace and TLS are the same thing...not good enough to be the everyday guy at 2B on a championship caliber team once they get past the years they are payed league minimum.

So what in the world is the point in arguing about them?

TLS brought back the probable replacement for Kimbrel and a bunch of international slot money, so see ya later. He more than served his purpose to the organization in that way.

The La Stella trade is looking like Hart's second best trade so far (signed some decent prospects with the slot money). After the Kimbrel trade.

I thought he'd be better than he was in 2014, but the difference between where I thought he'd be and where he was was an unlucky BABIP. If his BABIP was say .312 (closer to his norm in the minors and not out of touch with his LD rate) he would have had a slash of at worst .273/.344/.335 is basically about what I expected. I think his skill set (not striking out, walking and hitting line drives) he should be a guy who hits for high average and not much power.
