I said it before, grab Cespedes and this lineup is better, make a move for Lucroy and it's pretty damn solid. Hopefully Beth makes me regret that and goes off the rest of the year lol

My fear is he goes on a tear, we decide to go with him next season, and then Bethancourt bombs again next season.

Geez... Cespedes has been unreal for the Mets

I wonder if he's vaulted himself ahead of J. Upton and Heyward in the free agency sweepstakes. Age works against him in that comparison and he wasn't anything to write home about in 2013 and 2014, but he's been pounding the ball since going to NYC. Walks about as much as Francoeur.

Something like:

Smith CF

Olivera 3B

Freeman 1B

Cespedes LF

Lucroy/Beth C

Markakis RF

Peterson 2B

Simba SS

Miller RHP

It's a long shot, but it would be a decent lineup come opening day 2016.

I like Cespedes. A perfect hitter will probably never come on the market so everybody is gonna have flaws. We need another righthanded bat with pop so if we could get him on a 5 year deal with an option I'd def give it a look. Our offense is pretty crappy. Him and Lucroy would make us possible contenders in the east.

Would you go north of $25M AAV on Cespedes?

I think he has vaulted ahead. Maybe he feels more comfortable in the NL or maybe its just one of his streaks. Either way, I'd feel a bit uncomfortable paying him the money it will most likely take to get him. I'd almost rather take a chance on someone like Carlos Gonzalez since we would know what we are getting if healthy. Cespedes also isn't exactly a great defender, so if he reverts back to 2013 and 2014 which is a much larger sample size... you could be looking at a massive overpay.

Its not just little flaws... if he reverts back to 2013 and 2014... and heck even the first part of 2015... he's an average to below average hitter with sub-par defense. He just happens to have some power which can make the other struggles a mirage. Don't get too enamored with what he has done as a Met... he has these Upton like hot streaks... this one is just lasting a bit longer than usual.

I'm just not that enamored with the Cuban players. It's my primary concern about Olivera. I think there has been a tendency to overpay them all and they all seem to have flaws in their game.

Maybe Cespedes' huge year will drive his value up and indirectly drive Heyward's value down a bit...

A guy can dream
