Z, looks like you're pretty far north in NH. Am I correct?

Yeah, I live just north of White Mountain national park. Basically about 10 miles north of Franconia Notch and 10 miles west of Crawford Notch. I'm about in the place where Montreal is almost my nearest major metropolitan area as Boston is only a touch closer.

I dunno. I'm not much of a hiker. I know people who are and they hike tons of stuff. I'm more of a sports player than an explorer though.
It looks like great hiking country. Seen any wildlife? Deer? How lucky you are to live in such a place. Do you paint?

For me nothing beats a walk in nature, or along city streets for that matter, for cleaning out the cobwebs and refreshing the soul.

You should come to Wisconsin. My wife has a photography business and she does local fauna pics as well as people. We have so many parks with scenery like you see, which is quite beautiful, but also a lot of bluffs along the river. People actually take vacations here in the Fall to take pictures of that area.

If I drive to Rochester or Red Wing, MN, or if you are coming from Iowa and travel along the highway from Dubuque to Red Wing, you have a hard time concentrating on the road due to the scenery, it is nothing like it. You should know, you didn't live in the US all your life like myself and I lived in several countries. I still think America non city/town beauty is in the Top 2 in the world. Ireland has a unique beauty you just can't describe.

The kids are getting older and we are trusting them more to camp along these areas (I am a helicopter parent on safety). We been invited to stay in parks from friends but I refuse because they are on lakes and I don't trust my son to jump from a dock if other kids who can swim do it. When he passes his dolphin classes like his sister, then I won't have a problem going.

Don't paint. I coudln't if I tried. Suck at art. Lots of people I know up here are big hikers. I'll post some pictures I took of Flume Gorge which is pretty damned awesome. Closest thing to a hike I've done.

As far as wildlife, I've seen deer (though I am used to them, in NJ, NJ deer are much better survivors, deer up here move so slow), turkeys, moose, black bears, and others. Moose was the coolest.

Hiking is the best. With family even better.

Spent a couple of weeks in Berlin and Milan, NH one summer when I was a kid.

Berlin is about an hour from where I live. But it's not that far as a crow flies. Just slow moving NH roads.

Berlin is really sad IMO. Like lots of closed down buildings, lots of jobs left that area. Really sad.

It wasn't stellar then - but the paper mill kept things going. Is it still operational?
