Postseason Thread

Love Medlen, guys a competitor. Was there any doubt that he wasn't gonna come back from 2nd TJ and prove the doubters wrong? I understood why we let him walk, but I wish he was still here. That second half of 12 was really really special, and the best pitching I've seen since Maddux. He was that good during that time!

Gordon, Moustakas, and Hosmer are all really solid baseball players. I wouldn't be surprised to see Colon develop into an above-average 2B at some point (but admittedly he has a lower ceiling). Hochevar has been hurt. They turned Greinke into Cain, Escobar, Odrizzi, and Jeffress. Odrizzi (along with their third round pick from 2009 in Myers) was part of the deal that brought them Shields and Davis. That would put 63% of their current starting line-up, a key starting pitcher in last year's run and a solid bullpen guy somewhat tied to their drafting. I would say that's pretty decent.

The team that has done very well with their early picks is the Cubs. Baez, Almora, Bryant, Schwarber and Happ in the last five years.

Anybody can win with a 100 million payroll. So long as you acquire 3 stud pitchers in their cheap years. Mets are likely able to keep all 3 going forward if they wanted. Braves couldn't.

the braves could if they want

i mean, we are talking about owners with billions

No question. I've mentioned that more than once.

That's why I'm not putting much stock in the 2017 talk for us. It takes awhile.

You won't get an argument from me on the Cubs doing well with their early draft picks. But just to nitpick a little, Almora hasn't proven he was a good pick yet. His prospect status is sliding; he didn't hit that well in A+ at 20 years old, and did about the same at 21 in AA. Also, Baez hasn't proven he can hit higher level pitching yet, and Happ was just drafted.

Just saying, we can't call those great, or really even very good, picks yet. Bryant and Schwarber alone out of 5 picks is great return, no doubt; just saying, let's not give them credit for things that haven't happened yet.

Almora was worse, admittedly in limited ABs, in AA at 20 years old than Ruiz was.

Bartolo Colon: Why U so damn funny?
