Disturbing on our part, how our scouts could be so far off. In order for this trade to be remotely good, for the production that I am going to assume we are going to get out of Olivera, he needed to be in the infield. If that's not the case, then this move is a disaster of epic proportions considering what we gave up (and I wasn't even that big of a fan of Pereza). It appears more and more, that the Dodger's completely raped us because our FO had a moist spot for Olivera. And quite frankly, I would have been satisfied if Olivera could give us "Fryman" type production out of 3B with average defense.

You're being excessively pessimistic. This is a vote of confidence in Adonis Garcia at third. Why else would they want to move Olivera to a different position.

Olivera seems to still get highly ranked by all the "experts". Could we trade him while he still has some value?

I think this is a carry over from a massive misunderstanding of the market back when the rebuild started. The Braves made all those trades with the mantra of pitching, pitching, pitching when the reality of the market is hitting, hitting, hitting especially considering the wealth of FA pitching available and the relative paltry amount of hitting available.
So, when people in the FO woke up and realized reality, they started looking for long term controllable bats.

If Olivera is going to be in LF then I would be more than happy to bring back Uribe on a short term deal. We could do so much worse.

Doesn't fit with what you are trying to do. Just as the team really begins to get good, he is on the decline in the last half of his contract and probably a performance boat anchor. A big part of his value, at least to the WAR crowd, is his defense. Do you really think he maintains his defense for 4 more years?

What are your thoughts on the relative aging patterns of David Price and Alex Gordon.

You have to start with age and Price is 2 years younger. Price has pitched more than 27 starts every year after his break in 23. 27 is the low with every other year being more than 30. So, his durability is there. Price is a recognized ACE, one of the very best pitchers in baseball, so his performance could slip a bit, say when he's 35 and he would still be good.
Gordon is two years older and doesn't start at the same level of relative capability as Price compared to peers. He's never been great with the bat and a lot of his value is tied up in his defense. He's essentially a little bit better Markakis with better power and less average.
Gordon will command a shorter contract and will likely have a shorter useful window than Price.
The Braves need offense and Gordon doesn't really address that need.
The Braves need a veteran TOR starter and Price does address that.

It would be nice to have a TOR starter but I don't see us spending the cash
Gordon would be fantastic if he could still play 3b. But with Olivera moving to LF supposedly, then Gordon doesn't really fit. We already have like 5 OFers on the team, at least 3 of them are best suited to play LF only, and we're paying all of them (except for Olivera) like 10 million a piece next year already.

It can't be. A good offensive player at an EXTREMELY cheap rate has a ton of value.
I don't get you people. We need offense and the minute we trade for it, everyone is ready to jump off a bridge. Relax... no telling what happens this offseason. I have every reason to believe
it will be just as active as last year. Which means not many of these guys may be here next year.
