Paris Attacks

Tweets saying that Rome, D.C., and London are next.

that is pretty much saying "God Willing"

and i think it means hopefully attacks against Italy, England and the USA

but so be it

we all know we have enemies

just senseless killings in Beirut and Paris the last 2 days

sickening and sad

Theres something about Jihadists using social media to make threats that I find funny. I am surprised attacks like this havent happened more often. How hard can it be to smuggle religious fanatics across the border with some weapons and point them in the direction of a public place.

They are already across the border having been born (or at least raised) in many countries outside the Middle East.

I frankly don't know what to do. Put chips in every refugee's head and track their every move? Not serious with that one, but I am really stumped.

I read an interesting article from an older issue of The American Interest the other day that was very critical of the "military only" strategy against ISIL that only seems to grow more terrorists (and wannabes) in the Middle East and elsewhere. There has to be a "hearts and minds" campaign at the tribal level to turn this around in the long term. I realize some of that is going on and it will take time t work, but we need to be patient and on our guard in the meantime.

World has become way too soft. This is a pest control problem. You have a pest at home you call the exterminator. We need to wake up and take action.

With ISIS we have a jihadist terrorist organization with a goal of actual territorial gains. The response - which I agree needs to be more than a military response - certainly can not be less. Unless folks are just fine conceding more and more territory to them.

As to the fuller response - the hearts and minds message - what exactly would that be? And who give it? I'd think that the national secularists who want to engage the hearts and minds of jihadis and jihadi wannabes that have been swelling the ranks of ISIS, can't fall into the same old neocon trap. Do secularists actually have a message that jihadis will be attracted to? Frankly, I don't think so. And I think that there's a possibility that the secularist gospel will only enrage them more. Confirming to them the decadence and worthlessness of our countries in their eyes.

But what action? Bomb the Middle East back to the Stone Age and create a 1,000 year campaign against the West?

Bedell, I will try to find The American Interest article. It didn't have specifics except to say that random bombings and drone attacks actually accomplish very little and every death of a prominent terrorist simply creates more terrorists. I think the other thrust of the article is that the West continues to view ISIL as somewhat of a nation-state and it clearly isn't one.

If you want peace prepare for war. I know the UN counties can't just sit and wait for things to happen. They need to be proactive and not reactive.

I thought the answer after 9/11 was for Bush to talk openly and often about how this was not ALL Muslims, to try and cause a war within Islam itself. But of course they refused to even mention the religious side in public and that chance has passed.

The time has come to close all borders for all Muslims worldwide, to implement a policy of containment and force moderate Muslims choose sides.
