Miller market 'hot'

Ben Revere and the Jays say otherwise...

Well Revere is a below average hitter and a below average defender but for a center fielder that pretty much makes him average overall. Honestly I think that is Mallex's ceiling. A 2 WAR speedy center fielder that doesn't embarrass you in the field or at the plate. Not a guy who pushes the needle but definitely someone who has value in their pre FA years.

Mallex will probably be a lot like Jace: useful in his pre arb years because he is serviceable while he's cheap, but a non-tender candidate once he hits arb and starts making any real money.

Chances are he'll end up a bit more valuable than Jace. It looks like his development path is about 2 years ahead of Jace. He had success in AAA at age 22. Jace at age 24. Mallex also plays a defensive position that is slightly more challenging. And finally, while he was an effective base stealer in the lower levels, Jace's stolen base numbers dropped off in AA and AAA. Mallex on the other hand had very good stolen base numbers in AA and AAA last year.

Recent word is the Braves want a bat and a MLB pitcher if they are going to trade Miller. San Diego is looking to unload Shields, who is owed 3/63.

What about a deal centered around Renfoe and Shields plus cash for Miller? Or the Padres including Hedges instead of cash?

Shields would at least replace the innings Miller would have given, and the prospect(s) coming in return could fill a need long term.

I saw that report, but it was speculation.

Why would we help San Diego off the hook on Shields? We control Miller for the same 3 years for about $50m less. A spec bat and absorbing $50m for SD?

Gimme Soler, Baez, Castro. 5-6 years each. Cubs need now and later pitching. Give it to 'em. They're who we line up with.

I agree, but a Renfroe, Hedges, Shields return is the same kind of return you just suggested from the Cubs. The other team adds extra prospect value in exchange for the Braves taking on a bad contract.

I was trying to come up with additional scenarios that fit the same general line of thinking.

Lemme look at Renfroe and Hedges.

Yeah, pretty good...I think I like my idea better still, but yours has a catcher. I do want two bats in any deal. Time to start going the other way, even unloading extra lottery tickets the other way.

Hedges looks a little light with the bat, and Renfroe's best work is PCL tainted, but still translates well. Let me see what my buddy in El Paso says. I'll be out there on badness this week.

I mentioned taking on Shields the other day, just not sure Miller is a great fit for them. I would think they would be more interested in JT given his friendly contract.

I like this idea.

You don't like the Upton return, yet you think a proper return for getting worse and much more expensive at SP is Hunter Renfroe?

Hello guys this is my first post i am a huge braves fan since 1991 when i had 8 years old, i been thinking with what teams we can trade and last night came to my mind Colorado. Shelby Miller, Markakis and Vizcaino for Cargo, Ryan Mcmahon and Mike Nikorak. That give to us a batter for 2016 and 2017 and plus a third base for the future and another arm for the future. Cargo become free agent after 2017 and we get a pick when someone sign him. Colorado in other hand get a excellent pitcher that they always need and a closer because i believe Axford is not coming back plus they have a replacement for cargo. Maybe they can give us some money too. I know a lot of people is not going to be happy about Cargo but we need to think about the future plus that extra draft pick that we get if Cargo sign some where else.
