2015 WINTER MEETINGS THREAD

Oh yeah because every prospect will pan out? Makes sense because everyone always overrates the Braves kids around here.

No every prospect won't pan out. But if you get enough depth and quality then quite a few will. When they are ready you balance with a few key FA signings or trades and it's a recipe for success. See the Cubs... See the Cardinals... See the Royals and older Rays teams. It's a formula that works. Those major leaguers were useless to the team right now that had no chance to win.

nope everyone of them will flop..

I think there are some teams that like to spend money and just hope for the best.. I heard the Gnats are one and you don't have to stay up late to watch them like the Dodgers.. Their fan sign up day is January 10th. I suggest you head over that way and sign up. go ahead and find a few of their forum sites so you can circle jerk with the other whiner gnat fans..

Are you finished?

Not at all. The front office hasn't adequately addressed the major league roster. You can't deny that.

Please tell me you at least understand the rationale behind this. If not, I really can't help you.

No, not every prospect will pan out. But guess what every single player you would like us to bring in was at one point - a prospect.

Get enough good ones, and you're going to be fine.

Yes, the Miller trade, which is a slam dunk A++, makes this WM a huge success despite the rest of it which gets a C at best.

Don't get the "C" grade. Nice Rule 5 pickup, Flowers is a homegrown former prospect who will be our best defensive catcher since ... I dunno, Ross? And this last trade brings another pitcher who is now more than a year past TJ surgery. He was once a $1 million signee who passed on a UT quarterback opportunity.

What do the Braves have left to be sellers at the meetings?

Posts like this make Niners irrelevant. Figure in 2016 he'll try to retire the Worst Poster trophy (since Heyward will likely slit his wrists when he signs with Washington).

1. Signing Bonifacio for any money. The man hit .167, OPS of .390 last year. Surely anyone on our minor league roster could produce at least as much as he might do in 2016 for a fraction of the cost, plus give them a chance to see what they've got. Grade - F

2. Trading CB, who just last year was rated the 93rd best prospect in baseball by MLB.com, is traded at an all time low point, mainly because of the inexcusable use of him last year which ruined his value. Grade - F

3. Signing Flowers. Sad we had to go after a 30 year old, career .223 hitter to split time with our 39 year old catcher, but at least we didn't give him too much money. Grade - C

4. Choosing Rutky in the rule 5, when we could have selected Blash who has immense power, something we are sorely lacking. Grade - C-

I don't know how I feel about Heyward making $200 million to move over to CF. I think he's worth that deal, but for someone whose biggest strength is defense, mitigating that advantage is odd.

My thoughts as well. He loses quite a bit of defensive value moving to CF.

I do wish we have Beth a full year of playing time. Killed him. But the return we got wasn't bad. Best of luck to the guy. I bet he hits around .250 with the Pads

not going to argue with too many points.. I have said Frediot was a big reason CB never had a chance to prove himself. Last year was a waste of a year and CB should have played 75% of the time.. I also agree that Emilio is a wasted signing. I don't care about the money.. it is a roster spot that we could have filed internally. No need to grade the CB trade or the Flowers signing. Those are in the same breath of Frediot not playing CB. I give both of those transactions an A for what they are worth. I give Frediot an F for not letting us see what CB could really be..

Over all, the Braves did very well at these meetings. Solid A.. my only gripe is the Emilio signing. I am also on the side of trading Julio and Markickass... but I am not going to take points off for what they didn't do... I am by far less knowledgeable than the FO..
