2015 WINTER MEETINGS THREAD

Heyward has an offer in hand for $200 mil apparently.....also the Nats are one of the finalists.....that would be disgusting

my money is on the Cubbies.. but who knows.. They will have a hard time extending Harper if they have 200 mill tied up in Scherzer and 200 mill in Heyward for the next ten years..

Mhm, and Scherzer.

Tigers got in on Prince last minute a few years ago.

Kinda makes sense though especially since Bryce will get 300-400 mil in a few years.

that makes no sense.. you sign Heyward and let Bryce walk.. no chance. I sign Harper to 10 year deal next year for 300 million..

He is 25.. I don't think his defense is slipping in his 26 year old season. I think he can be a 3 War player on Batting average and defense alone.

I suggest you do some reading about defense aging curves for MLB players. They tend to peak around the age of 24-25. So yes, Inciarte's defense is very likely at it's peak right now, and we have probably seen the best he will ever have to offer.

Now obviously a lot of players get better offensively as they mature into their late 20s, so that may certainly happen with Inciarte. However, he has never hit much in the minors, and has terrible platoon splits vs LHers so far in his MLB career, so I wouldn't bet the farm he is going to improve much offensively.

I would be willing to bet he settles in as a nice 2-2.5 WAR player in CF, which is fine and useful. But if some other teams values him as a 4 WAR player then I think they should trade him.

I don't know how I feel about Heyward making $200 million to move over to CF. I think he's worth that deal, but for someone whose biggest strength is defense, mitigating that advantage is odd.

Cubs are the best fit for him, whether or not he signs there is another story.

The Cubs are a great fit for Jason. They should sign him, get Inciarte from us as part of a deal for Soler, and play JHey at his natural position. Inciate/Heyward would be a phenomenal defensive combo—enough to overcome Schwarber in LF, maybe.

I'm gonna go into a depressive funk until at least May if he signs with the Nats.

Cubs would run the NL for the next 5 years if they got Heyward/Inciarte.

Nats would be good this year, but Stras is a FA after the year (only real top tier SP next winter), and Bryce has been rumored to go to the Yankees for years.

Would still suck if he went there though.

This is a great plan for him, but I want more in return from the Cubs if we're dealing with them. I like Soler, but I don't love him and he has clear flaws. So I'd much rather expand the deal and also get at least either McKinney or Contreras.

Pretty funny that Yunel and Andrelton ended up on the same team. Angels have a really good left side of the infield now for sure.

Would Schwarber even need to be out there? I am sure those two could handle it.
