8-11-2013 Marlins at Braves

I just don't understand how Uggla just continues to get a free pass with this team. He's one of the worst all around players in baseball right now and we are in the middle of a pennant race.

Who do you sit him for.

Janish, who is all glove and no bat?

Keep in mind, Uggla and Fredi have a father and son type relationship. So as long as Fredi is here we might not even look to trade Uggla.

God, I certainly hope this was posted with sarcasm intent.

Sadly, somewhat true.

But it's going to be near impossible to trade him.

Will be 34 next year, and 25 million owed. Worse contracts have been traded but Frank would have to eat a lot to move him. May not be worth it.

There's nothing somewhat about what I stated, IMO. They are like father and son and I only stated that they "might not" look to move him. I didn't say it wasn't possible or totally rule it out. I simply don't see Fredi supporting trading Uggla given their relationship, etc. Plus there's the issue of contract that effects consideration.

95 National Leaguers have at least 300 plate appearances. 88 of them have fewer Home Runs than Dan Uggla. 91 of them have fewer walks. Translated: He is 7th in the NL in homers and 4th in walks. Those things have value.

Yeah, his batting average is horrendous, but it simply does not tell the whole story. Then you add the fact that he is a great base runner and plays solid defense (and yeah I know what the defensive metrics say), you have a player with value--not as much as his contract calls for certainly, but unless you can show me an available 2B who would contribute more to the Braves winning THIS season, I vote we roll with Uggla.

Yep. Goes back to their Florida days. Uggla was only going into his 2nd MLB season when Fredi got hired.

Uggla is actually having one of his worst seasons defensively. He's now equaled his worst at -15 DRS (defensive runs saved) on the year. But time and time again Simmons, Freeman and our great pitching picks him up. This last game is a perfect example of that, where he makes a two base error to start an inning. But thanks to great pitching the runner was stranded at second base.

Now Uggla did have a good season defensively last year. But when it counted in the Wild Card game he was bad fitting more his track record.

I completely understand that he will be almost impossible to trade. All I'm asking is that come September, if/when he's still playing like this....we need to field our best team in a pennant race. Period. Wren needs to go and get a strong backup that can take over if needed.

As posted above, he draws a lot walks, has power, plays decent defense, has value, not totally useless like you claim.

You can't have an All Star at every spot.

And who could we get that's better, I'd like to hear this.
