2018 FA class wow

I want to add one thing a lot of this players they are extremely good but by 2018 many of them will have 30 years or more. Many times here i read the complaints about Nick Markakis is old. Example: Andrew McCutchen is 29 years old right now. Adam Wainwright is 34 right now, Michael Bradley 28, Josh Donaldson 30, and the list continue. We need to focus on extended our Aces and our core players before we go crazy to sign any of this players by 2018 is a long way too go. By the way by 2018 the Braves can go out again and sign a bunch of International talent.

That didn't hurt Julio Franco! :Bunchie1:

I think those who are concerned with current ML talent are stuck in the "win now" mode. They are building teams in their minds for 2016. That's understandable since no one wants to see bad baseball. BUT, the plan is to rebuild for 2017 (stated) and beyond (reality). On Freeman, you have to ask if he will be Gordon in 2018-19 or will he be Goldschmidt? If Gordon, then the best move is to move him now since at $22M+ per year he's very expensive to not be a star.

If you can't develop a suitable replacement, then it doesn't matter which player Freeman is playing like. You'll either have to use valuable assets to trade for a good 1b (like Freeman) or you'll have to spend 15 million or more to sign a 1B that's worth a damn.

Freeman's contract is not prohibitive and is actually well undermarket value. No reason to trade him now, unless we are overwhelmed with an offer (unlikely).

The only teams who really matchup in a trade for FF are Hou and Bos.

Doesnt make much sense to trade him given we have no replacement. Hou is better off handing the job to AJ Reed though.

And Pittsburgh and Cleveland. All are in win now mode to vary extents. Reed is unlikely to be ready in 2016.

Smh you act like we MUST trade Freeman.

His contract the way baseball inflation is, would make it stupid to trade him especially if we have to eat money.

But if a team wants to empty out it's farm system i'm all ears.

Why would you think Reed wouldn't be ready in 2016? By all indications, the Astros are going to give him a shot out of spring training. He's advanced because he was a college bat going into the draft (and the top college bat in 2014) and has shown he's got nothing left to prove in the minors. He made the difficult transition from A ball to AA without a flinch.

No. I am saying a good GM MUST listen and be willing to pull the trigger for the right offer. And sometimes the right offer is out there you just need to find it.

It's a gamble for a team looking to win NOW. Is it possible they won't trade Reed and have no interest in Freeman? Sure. But, there were early reports that they were interested...

A lot of people have said what's the point in having money next offseason since it's a week FA class. There's also the trade route and some of the guys from this class will be traded next offseason. You have to have the prospects to trade for them and the money to take them on if that's the route you choose to go though.
