Last year's draft looks very impressive so far. But considering what we've traded away, it isn't that surprising (or impressive) that there are some top prospects have been acquired via trade.

I'm pleased to see Blair ranked so highly. I think he's been lost in the shuffle a bit. He's generated good results in very tough pitching environments.
 
8 of those guys have been acquired in the past year. This has to be one of the fastest organizational rebuilds in MLB history. It doesn't even mention guys like Jenkins, Folty and ManBan.

I guess I was just meaning that it's amazing that 7 of our top 10 prospects have been generated since the start of last season. When we were already fairly deep after the Upton/Gattis/Heyward/Kimbrel trades.

I did this back in Sept for another site to see how the Braves 2015 class was doing.. after reading some of our prospect lists, I figured I would put this back out there to show some of the talent we have in the lower levels still. I listed them in order of draft. the guys who didn't sign were obviously left off..the highest draft pick that signed was Matthew Custred in round 31.. but his numbers are really good as you will see... I also didn't realize that there were more 20ish type guys that the Braves drafted this year. for the most part, these are some good performances.. there is also a 20 year old catcher who put up an almost .900 ops..

Kolby Allard LHP 0-0 0 era 6 ip 0 bb 12 ks age 18.02

Mike Soroka RHP 0-2 3.75 ERA 34 IP 5 bb 37 ks age 18.03

Austin Riley 3B 252 pa .304 avg .933 ops 12 hr 40 rbi age 18.154 he has 26 BB but has struck out a 65 times.. that needs to come down.

I'm excited about AJ Minter. He would probably have been a first rounder if he hadn't gotten hurt. Should see game action by mid-year at the latest. Before he got hurt he had the stuff to be a top of the rotation starter or a high leverage reliever. If he can get back on track after surgery he could shoot up the rankings.

Look at the Role for each player. This is what I hate with prospects rankings. We are super excited and have a highly rated system (as I think we should be) but by seeing the projected role, we have no top of the rotation pitchers.

2. Sean Newcomb - Role: 60—No. 3 starter
4. Aaron Blair - Role: 55—Mid-rotation starter
5. Kolby Allard - Role: 55—No. 3 starter
6. Touki Toussaint - Role: 50+—Mid-rotation starter/high-leverage reliever
7. Mike Soroka - Role: 50+—Mid-rotation starter
9. Max Fried - Role: 50—mid-rotation starter
10. Lucas Sims - Role: 50—Back-end starter/high-leverage reliever

I saw an article recently, can't remember where, where all GM's were asked to give their top pitching prospect in the game right now. Giolito from Washington and Snell from Tampa tied with most votes, but next behind them was Newcomb.

Guys are almost never projected to be top of the rotation pitchers. Aces are so rare that even the best pitching prospects usually fail to reach that level. You usually see a guy projected to be a middle of the rotation starter with the potential to be an ace if things go right. The best you can usually do is gather a group of young pitchers that have the pieces necessary to become top of the rotation pitchers.

Newcomb has the pure stuff to be an ace, the question is whether he'll improve his command.

Allard easily has an ace ceiling but the questions with him are based on health and the fact that he's so young.

Toussaint has an electric fastball and knee buckling curve. He's another with ace potential but he's also raw and needs development.

Soroka is another who is so young it's hard to say what he'll be.

Fried could be another Cole Hamels if he gets healthy and develops. There's nothing capping his potential.

Sims is the guy too many people are sleeping on. His stats have belied exactly how good he could be. He started putting it all together at the end of last year and made a mockery of the AFL. He's got ace stuff and if the improvement in his command is real, he'll soon be one of the top pitching prospects in the game.

Of that list, Blair is probably the only one without an ace ceiling. He makes up for it with an extremely high floor.

Not all of these guys will become aces. I think we probably have a good chance at getting one top notch starter from that group. If we get two we should be ecstatic.

doesn't matter what experts say. these Kids are still learning and developing. They can pick up movement and speed. Some will exceed expectation and some will fall flat. It is a good problem to have a bunch of guys who project to be #2/#3 starters..

But when the experts say the Braves have a good farm system it matters. So when the experts say something you don't like it doesn't matter then?

I would suggest reading up on the scouting reports of both of this year's CY Young winners. Neither one were projected as front of the rotation pitchers. Arrieta was projected as a #3 and Kuechel was even projected as #4-5 type by some sites.

When Experts say we have a good farm system, then I listen. But that doesn't mean it is true. The Braves could very well have a farm system full of duds that will flame out.. So why does that matter. I already said there will probably be some guys who fall well short of their projections and some that will exceed their projections. History tells us that.

You can buzz kill all you want, but you will never bring me down. I just can't live in such a negative, whiney state like you do. But honestly, I think this is more of an act on your part for the attention. It is cool though.. We are all here for the attention if you think about it. Just some get it with hope and conversation while others cry and whine...
 
The ones who cry and whine are also here for the attention. A form of therapy I suppose.

We are all attention whores.. we post something for a response (most of the time).. So we all want attention.. some do it because their lives are empty and boring.. others do it because they share a common interest.

I thought Minter was going to be ready by Spring this year. I would imagine he is a BP guy in 2016 just to ease him back after TJS.. maybe a few spot starts. He is 22 and could easily shoot up the minor league system.. as well as the rankings.
