Peterson - Thumb Ligament

Fredi had an undisclosed 80% tear in his cerebrum last year. He's doing better, but I did just read a Fangraphs article where he said that A.J. would be a good managerial candidate, so it looks like he still has some rehab to do.

Oooh, I think I'm going to need a link to that.

I guess we will see! Hopefully this is the case and he's a beast this year. I was REALLY excited about what I saw, so I can only for more. It would be amazing if he could provide us with some much-needed stability.

I'm with you. I thought we stole him by about June 1, but then he cratered. I think he could hit .280-.300 depending upon how many lefties he sees. And I loved his defense.

Here it is.

Entertaining read. Pretty much everybody mentions David Ross's name.

Here's the gold, though:

Fredi Gonzalez, Braves manager: “I think there are a lot of guys. There are guys who are very cerebral. I think A.J. Pierzynski could do it. He knows the game. He wants to win, and I think people sometimes confuse that for other stuff. He speaks his mind. There’s not a cookie-pattern type of manager; you have different types of dynamics and personalities. Mark Kotsay could do it.”

Catchers have the best view of the game and they're also very involved. No other player on the field has a relationship with a pitcher like his battery mate. So naturally they are all encompassed during the game and see everything. Which way a defense should shift, when a runner is likely to run for a steal, when his pitchers are gassed etc. Torre, Cox, Sweet Lou, Fredi, Maddon, Bochy and others were all catchers.

Let's call that "the money shot."

Wow. Bobby got thrown out 162 times. I say that record is in jeopardy from the moment the Johns nod in unison to each other and say, "Pierzynski. A.J. can bring back The Braves Way."

You ever get a vision of the three Johns making decisions like oldsters in rockers sitting around watching Fox News together? My father is a lifelong union democrat and he's taken to watching Fox. Told me the other day O'Reilly wasn't bad. I told him he's rotting his brain and he's just giving in to peer pressure. None of the other oldsters would give him the time of day if he weren't getting his news from Rupert Murdoch.

Let's look at the statement in some detail:

"I think there are a lot of guys."

There are, without a doubt, a lot of guys.

"There are guys who are very cerebral."

Presumably, yes, there are. What Fredi's image of cerebral is, I don't know. I kinda envision it being along the lines of "Hey, Greg Maddux wears glasses, I'll bet he reads books, too."

"I think A.J. Pierzynski could do it."

Did that sentence have anything, ANYTHING, to do with the one before it? Criminy. I hope not.
