People would bash LA if they got Greinke saying they spend too much now they dont spend enough.

Dodgers have a great lineup, sure the rotation has it's question marks after Kershaw but its hardly terrible.

Bullpen could be better.

But as always they're flushed with money and have a great system if need be.

I don't care how much money they spend. All I'm saying is if I had the #1 payroll in baseball, double the median, I'd be expecting better starting pitching. Historically, that's been a pretty important part of the team.

Gotta agree with Gov. The Dodgers are spending 75 million or more on their rotation. And only of those pitchers threw 200 innings in 2015. Aside from Kershaw, the whole staff is made of guys who have injury concerns or durability concerns.

Will the Dodgers still be good in spite of this? Sure they will. But one would think you could spend 75-80 million more wisely than Kershaw and bunch of question marks. And it could come back to haunt them.

Of that $70 million, $35 is going to Kershaw. $35 for the other rotation spots is reasonable.

It's actually closer to 40 million I think. And 40 million for 4 spots is quite a bit of dough for a group with as many question marks as they have.

lets do the math

Anderson 16 million
McCarthy 11 million
Ryu 8 million
Beachy 1.5 million could be more
Wood .5 million
Kazmir 12.5
Maeda 3 million could be more..
so lets add those up for this group of starting pitching that will take the Dodgers to the glory land!!!

So I get 52.5 Million for a guy who had 2 Tommy Johns.. 1 that is still recovering from TJS.. 1 that is coming back from shoulder surgery... 1 that is out around 4 months due to back surgery.. one that has never pitched in the Majors.. 1 that is 32 and has a career 4 ERA..and 1 that has been losing velocity the last 3 years... they also have Bolsinger and Urais who I think might be used more than the Dodgers want to..

Now I agree, injuries happen.. the Dodgers didn't sign these contracts knowing these guys were going to get injured.. however, when you have money like the Dodgers do and are committed to winning like they are.. I think I would want a better rotation than the one I just listed. Kazmir/Wood/Bolsinger are the only quality ones in that group.. Beachy/Meada/Urais/Ryu are very big ??

The Dodgers certainly deserve some criticism for not developing any young, controllable pitching in a while.

They haven't had any since him, and they're paying him $30+ mil.

yeah.. but you get a pass in my book if you draft the best pitcher in the league with the 7th pick.. Then they have Deleon and Urais knocking on the door..

30+ for Kershaw is them locking him up.. worth it IMO..

**edit... you know my opinion on the Dodger$ and their pitching staff, but Kershaw is in a league of his own the last couple of years..

I don't disagree that he's worth it, or that he's otherworldly. But their problems in the rotation are what they are because they haven't been able to bring along anyone else. They've had to spend a ton of money there.

That's a crazy 'what if'. Thankfully, the Braves got an incredible return off of Heyward/Simmons, so it's hard to be disappointed, but if you consider that the Braves could have traded Kimbrel without attaching Upton, then you have to imagine we could have been ever so slightly better off.

Interesting tidbit from MLB TR

Prior to Jason Heyward’s trade to the Cardinals last offseason, the Yankees and Braves discussed a blockbuster framework that would’ve sent Heyward, Andrelton Simmons, David Carpenter, Melvin Upton and Chris Johnson to New York in exchange for Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, Manny Banuelos, Gary Sanchez and Ian Clarkin, according to a report from Jon Heyman (links to Twitter). Per Heyman, New York ultimately wouldn’t pull the trigger on the deal. A later, much smaller trade would see Carpenter and lefty Chasen Shreve sent to the Yankees in exchange for Banuelos. Heyward, meanwhile, was dealt to the Cardinals in a trade that sent Shelby Miller to the Braves. Atlanta, of course, flipped Miller to the D-backs this winter in a potentially franchise-altering deal.

If he goes down the dodger$ are just snake bit. And I will laugh at their 250 million payroll and laugh. But hopefully wood is fine. Always liked the kid.
