Braves Spring Training news and roster competition

Kinda wonder where Stubbs would play even if he'd go to Gwinnett with Mallex playing everyday in CF. If you've got Tuiasosopo in RF and Toscano in LF, where would his ABs come from?

The one who would lose ABs in this scenario would probably be Tuiasosopo. But with the DH/injuries/need to rest there should be enough ABs for four outfielders.

I see the Royals have signed Duensing to a minor league deal. Wondering when/if we're going to get a second lefty for the major league pen.

Same here. I would hope that someone's on the way. Question is whether it's a guy that'll be given an MLB deal to make the 25-man, or a guy that will accept a AAA assignment at the outset. There are guys out there that would fit either category.

Boni could go to AAA also, right?

Both Boni and Bourn were DFA'd. That puts both in limbo for 10 days unless someone claims them on waivers. If a team wanted either before that 10 day period, they could put in a waiver claim and work out a trade with the Braves. If someone were to bite, could help the Braves to recover a very small chunk of money. Both are tenured enough that they can refuse an assignment to AAA.

I found it interesting that they chose not to make purchasing Chacin's contract part of this announcement. It's likely nothing, but it could also mean they're keeping their options open a little bit longer. Since he doesn't have an opt-out til June, they could also choose to keep him off the roster til Saturday when a 4th starter is needed.

They said pitching decisions would come after todays game.

Should also signal that they're willing to call Mallex up as soon as they're convinced what we saw in camp wasn't an illusion.

In order to do so, a move would obviously have to be required. Either Inciarte,Markakis, Olivera, or Garcia/KJ have to fail miserably. Or a trade that would be very beneficial would have to take place

Completely misses the point.

If at whatever point he's needed he'll be called up. If they were worried about his clock at all, one of Bourn or Bonifacio would have been kept as a left-handed option in CF rather than Stubbs or Francoeur.
