Opening day! April 4, 2016: Nationals (Scherzer) @ Braves (Teheran)

Can someone summarize how we lost? I left the house and was driving when Grilli started the 9th (on the radio). WHAT THE HOW

Like most things of quality, it's made in the USA. If that was to describe a closer or relief pitcher, it would be Craig Kimbrel

Like most things that are wal mart quality and is awful and made in China. If that was to describe a closer or relief pitcher that would be Jason Grilli

Horrible lineup
Horrible rotation
Horrible defense

That does not equal mediocrity.

Settle down, CyYoung.

I see this team competing for a wild card spot once the bullpen gets even better with players returning from injury. Also the vets on the offensive side will suck so bad they'll have no choice but to call up the kids in hte middle of a pennant race.

I have reason to believe that this team could be like the Minnesota Twins of 2015.

I'm not down on this team as much as others, but I'm not sure I agree with you though. April is brutal... We may be behind the 8-ball come may

We're good as long as we're only about 4 games below .500 at the end of April.

IMO the sooner the FO feels like we are completely out of it, the sooner they can be creative to dumping\moving guys for salary or draft picks or whatever they can get.

I'll take another KJ\Uribe deal for Gant in a heartbeat. Ironically, that was considered the worst trade we made in the passed few years on this board. Just a fleecing by the Mutts.

Seriously? This offense will be lucky to score 650 runs, and the pitching staff is likely to be one of the worst in MLB. We have already seen how bad the defense is going to be. There are 2 above average MLB position players on this team in Inciarte and Freeman, and 1 pitcher that has any business being in an MLB rotation in Teheran (Wisler is a decent guy to be breaking in at the #5 slot I suppose). The rest are below average at best, or replacement level...or worse.

you got way too offended by a facetious statement.

Bowman and most reporting on the deal painted Rob Whalen as the "main buy" in that trade. I doubt many here had heard of or seen Gant pitch and given early trade reports focused on Whalen it's not surprising. Plus Uribe and KJ were popular among fans too so I'd imagine that factored into it as well. That said, I agree that trade looks very good now and I believe Gant could prove better than a number of higher ranked pitching prospects we got in bigger trades.

Exactly why I wouldn't be surprised if we are actually worse than last year. It will all depend on how quickly the young guys can come up and make a difference. The trash we're running out there right now might barely be able to win 60 games.

By the way, am I the only one who is annoyed that they always seem to put an off-day right after Opening Day? I want to watch baseball, dammit.

Seriously, why not play this two-game series with the Nats consecutively AND THEN have the off-day on Thursday? Wouldn't that make more sense?

I feel like the offense has to better.

The defense will be terrible and the pitching... oh the pitching.

The bullpen should improve too. I'd say we'll probably be a net even to last year's team

They do it incase of rainouts... but you're point is valid... It's especially stupid that some teams don't debut til Tuesday. That makes no sense to me
